  1. Nope. I went to a rather renowned APSIA school for my undergrad and it makes very very little difference. Academically, universities recognize APSIA schools as top international affairs programs but professionally, it's worth zilch (and I say this, after having had a few related internships). I would recommend talking to profs you trust in the program and asking them directly. Foreign policy wise though, both schools are great, though I would argue that U of Ottawa has the bigger names (with some exceptions at NPSIA like Saideman). I'd agree with the previous commenter that there's really no "best" program, it all comes down to what feels like the best fit. Welcome Masa! And congrats, apparently NPSIA only admitted 2 international students this year. Both programs have a lot to offer, it all comes down to what your academic interests and professional aspirations are (NPSIA might be a better fit for those who want to work for the Canadian government, etc...) . Toronto is most definitely more expensive, but it's a much more interesting city as well.
  2. I was told by NPSIA staff & students that co-op placements have become extremely competitive because students are coming in with less (professional experience, making the competition for co-ops much fiercer and expensive ($400 dollars to access the list of possible co-ops!). In the words of the administration, "you won't really have a choice when it will come to picking the co-p". I got the feeling they were very strong in government internships, but less so with NGOS and int. organizations (not that there's many in Ottawa). My personal experience with internships has been that connections (both academic and professional) can really get you through the door. The friends I have who work in int.organizations both in DC and Ottawa usually got in that way. In other words, if you are aiming at entering a particular field and have profs that have connections in Ottawa, GPSIA might give you a leg up in getting those contacts. Though I don't know who your profs are, Roland Paris is probably worth an entire school when it comes to security contacts. NPSIA is a great program, but you can't necessarily be banking on prestige alone or having profs that will go to bat to you. Just my 2 cents based on trying to decide schools, myself
  3. I was refused as well. Mickun88, you have my best wishes, as your profile sounded amazing and it's crazy to think they are refusing people like you. Overall, I am very disappointed by their treatment of students and have a feeling that far from being evaluated one on one, we were refused in mass all today, with only 5-10 mn being given given to our applications.
  4. I would think that's good sign then. It would be quite unprobable that the emails would bug in a way were they would all still be personalized with your names? I'm still heading in the under consideration limbo, personally (which I'm beginning to think will soon become the waiting list applicants?).
  5. Did the emails mention your names directly (Dear Ms/Mr...etc...)? If yes, there is probably a higher chance the platform is wrong and that the emails would be binding.
  6. Oh oh .... from a comment on the FB page: Paola Eicher Dear Adam, we are still processing the applications. The majority will receive responses today but as we have received numerous scholarship applications we have to study them thoroughly, which will mean that we will need some more days to send out all the decisions. But be reassured, everyone will receive a message to say whether they are admitted or not next week. Fingers crossed to all of you, Paola Eicher
  7. Probably stand outside in the snow storm and then go eat my weight in chocolate.
  8. Hello all! New lurker here, similarly still waiting for Mdev results. I had been really impressed by how prompt IHEID and Paola always answered mails, but I'm beginning to think they're running late. Argphhhhhh. It's also not reasurring that there hasn't been any known rejections, almost like they're saving them for the end. Also, I noticed quite a few of you applied for Sciences Po and some had problems with the administration. As a graduate, all I can say is it will only get worse from here, they're the most incompetent administration I have ever seen (and that includes many 3rd world countries) and we use to refer to the day we had to pick classes as wartime. I would also advise checking with them how many people are in your class before making your final decision. PSIA masters are pretty big, because Sciences Po undergrads are automatically admitted to the all their non-competitive grad programs (having hated my undergrad there, I left, but many of my friends attended). Anyways, sorry for the Sciences Po tangent and good luck to everyone still waiting on IHEID! May they take pity on us
  9. Yeah, I did not have the best time either when I visited last week and had somewhat of a similar experience. The Student Ambassadors never replied to my email asking for a visit. I walked around and was also a put out by the standoffish attitude of many of the students towards me. One even exclaimed to another that non-Munk students should not have the right to walk through their campus. I had really hoped to work with the Citizen Lab if I chose to attend and was disappointed to hear that it is extremely hard to actually get to do any work with the professors and is mostly based on the off chance you get in their seminar. None of the main courses the first year are actually taught by any of their so-called big names. Overall, I thought it not worth the money and have already declined my spot.
