My roommate and I ended up looking at apartments in The Loop area and decided if we wanted to move to CWE we could do that our second year. We found several 2 br apartments on Heman, Syracuse, and Kingsland for pretty cheap. However, we found another apartment thats just north of campus on N. Skinker (a block north of Pershing). It's slightly more expensive, but the proximity is very tempting even though they don't have any off-street parking. How is this area?
  2. I'm starting at Washington University this fall.
  3. Each program is different, I'm going to a program that only pays their research assistants part-time and not above $9.50 and they don't have teaching assistantships. However, my friend is in a program where her TA is paying her tuition and giving her a stipend. I would expect to take out loans though, because unless you go to a state university and get in-state it will be very expensive.

I met her at admitted students weekend. However, certain programs have Facebook pages where they list housing and roommates. You could contact the program about it.

Thanks so much for your advice and input! I've reconsidered and have a roommate now to make things easier looking for apartments. We've found a few and were wondering which location is better. We'll be relying on the train and our bikes/walking. We might have some evening classes as well (Danforth). We prefer to be around coffee shops, people milling about etc. I decided against the 5438 Delmar location as BeakerBreaker said it wasn't the best and I didn't like it myself. The only reason I'm gearing more towards the CWE apartments (4 blocks from the CWE metro) is because I heard the Loop can be a bit sketchy walking alone at night from campus. Here are the other locations: -Herman at the Loop (a block south of Metcalfe Park) -7355 Lindell (A block east of Danforth) -West Pine and Euclid (Park Place Apartments) - Buckingham Court (in between West Pine, Euclid, and Laclede) Also, how much are basic utilities?
  6. I've decided to attend Washington University in St. Louis (WUSTL) for Global Health MPH! Taking everything into consideration (specifically finances), I saw it as the best fit for me. It was hard to let go of BU, but I feel WashU will be more beneficial. Getting excited!

Can you give any insight with these specifications? I would like to live in a studio (preferably hardwood floors because of allergies but I'll deal with carpet if I have to), under $600, not sure if I'll have a car so I'll depending on the metrolink/bike, and I would like to be in an area where there are coffee shops/restaurants close by in less than 10 min walking distance. I'm used to walking around NYC at night, but not Chicago or other cities with higher crime rates. Oh and I'll be attending WashU Danforth campus. I visited this past weekend and was only able to check out one place, the apartment itself was great but I didn't like the location (5438 Delmar)
  8. Do you intend to get your PhD or Masters in Psych as well, or will that not really help you?
  9. I didn't receive an application notice from the school. I would also e-mail a cover letter to dean of the department or chair of admissions and cc the admissions department. This shows initiative and I received a reply from them, christine.cortalano@mssm.edu
  10. Not only self-stigma, but the the cultural stigma of mental health. Since I'm going into global health and I saw first hand how people in certain developing countries view mental health, I would like to find a way to help change that perspective. Do you want to focus on the policy aspect? That's huge in this country and much needed
  11. I'm in the same boat, got accepted to BU (my dream school), but tuition and living expenses is scaring me away. I'm waiting to hear back about my full financial aid package, what I've received thus far isn't enough to make it worth it.
  12. I'm with Catsushi. However, with my undergrad background I wanted to look at mental health stigmas/access in public health and use photo voice as a form of advocacy and look into health communications as well.

Sorry, possibly attending. (Did that Freudian slip mean something?). Also, I might not have a car right when I get there so somewhere close to campus/public transport (which might take out CWE).

Hey, I'll be attending WashU, the Danforth campus, and you mentioned not wanting to deal with CWE, is there a reason? I would like to find a studio or 1 bedroom for $650 or less. I have a background in art, so I'm a sucker for the architecture in that area. Is there a certain area in CWE (street crossings) you can recommend or anywhere else that has a similar vibe? I like Brooklyn types in urban settings, (local cafes, people milling about, etc.) but not Manhattan or Chicago busy. Sorry if that's a little confusing!
  15. Off the top of my head, Tulane and Mt. Sinai have rolling admissions
  16. I don't really have any specific advice, but I've been seriously considering WUSTL as one of my choices as well. I would say to look at the professors, the research, and courses to see which is a better fit. Best of luck!
  17. I completely understand, one of my top two choices still has to get back to me on my need-based financial aid and I only have 3 weeks left to decide.
  18. Do you know anything about Boston U's Global Health program versus WashU's? I'm trying to figure out if paying more at Boston will be worth it.
  19. They can't retract your acceptance and they understand that it does play a factor in your decision. Obviously ask with tact and class and ask the correct person, i.e. not the professor you want to do research with as they won't likely know anything about your financial aid package.
  20. One school (Washington University) informed me of my merit-based scholarship in the acceptance e-mail. Another school (Boston U) sent me the scholarship information in my acceptance letter that came through the mail, however, they had already informed me of my acceptance through e-mail 10 days prior. I believe it varies with each school and the best thing to do is contact them and ask what their funding options are and what you can/will receive.
  21. My top two choices from schools that I have been accepted to are BU and WashU, both global/international MPH. I have been given funding from both schools, but more from Washington University in St. Louis. Obviously, finances are playing a big part in my decision. However, I need some insight on both programs since I won't be able to visit either before I give my acceptance. Has anyone visited the programs or know anything about either school? I'm moving from GA and both cities will be new and that's not a factor aside from living expenses.
