  1. I think I'm putting in one more app for LSE for a master's, now that I think it would actually be better for me. If that doesn't work out, I'm applying for a scholarship from the Chinese government to do some school over there. If THAT doesn't work I'll likely teach English in China for a year and go from there. There's also the possibility of doing a master's at my undergrad institution, but I hate this town so so so so much.
  2. I really hope Georgetown gets their official rejections out soon so I can have a sense of closure.
  3. I don't know. I imagine she wouldn't have sent the notice out if it hasn't been known to happen. I'm considering giving it a try in East Asian Studies since things aren't so sunny on the PhD front and Cornell is awesome for China stuff...it's just that whole lack of funding business. Ick.
  4. Rossiya, congrats on your Yale MA, btw! You have a very difficult choice ahead of you, but it's a good problem to have.
  5. Rejected from MN. This is starting to look kinda grim.
  6. One thing I am very grateful for is my wonderful adviser who understands this whole process and is there to offer support and tissues and encouragement in the harshest lashes of the admissions cycle. This process is a lot more emotionally draining than people would think. I wish there were some way for us all to have a big group hug (and celebration and sob where appropriate). Waiting has never been so hard.
  7. Here's the body of the e-mail: Thank you for your interest in the Cornell University Government Department's doctoral program. Your application for admission to the Graduate Program for Fall 2010 has been given careful consideration by the faculty. We regret to inform you that your application has not been approved. This year's application process was the most competitive on record: we received more than 400 high-quality applications. This large number of applicants combined with the small size of our program (we average classes of 12 students) meant that we were able to extend offers to only a very small minority of those who wanted to study with us. We could easily fill a class size of twelve several times over with excellent students. Once again, we sincerely appreciate your interest in Cornell and thank you for your application. On behalf of the entire faculty of the Government Department, I wish you success in continuing your studies.
  8. I got a rejection today via e-mail. I imagine it was a mass e-mail as there was nothing personal about it.
  9. I hope Cornell isn't done yet. I'd like to have one thing that isn't a rejection. Just one. I'm starting to look seriously into a backup plan.
  10. I got an e-mail directing me to the website where I got the same rejection letter they have for every student who applies. Very impersonal with no information on the program or numbers or anything.
  11. Got an official no from Yale today for the MA. I feel pretty led on. This one actually really hurts.
  12. Ah really? That's fine though. At this point in my life I'd be just as happy with an MA acceptance. I'm definitely in no rush. It would be nice though, of course.
  13. I'd really like to see Chicago give out responses to the rest of the subfields this week. I'm also dying to hear from my Yale MA. I'd also love some news from Washington.
  14. They do, actually. From Columbia's website: "There are approximately 50-75 prospective students who apply directly to the MAO program each year. In addition to this number, some students rejected from the PhD program for that year are given the option of being considered for the MAO program. Thus the number of students being considered for the MAO program can vary a fair amount each year from only 75 to as many as 200 or more. A different number of students is admitted each year, usually aiming for a class size between 15 and 20. As the number of admits varies as well as the number of applications, there is no average percentage that would accurately reflect the chance for admission for each class of applicants." Kinda sucks for the people applying directly to the master's.
  15. I go to an unranked public school and I'm being considered for an MA at an Ivy, so very much upward. Of course I have yet to actually get in anywhere.
  16. Well after watching Plushenko skate tonight I COMPLETELY understand why cpaige/Rossiya studies Russia. *drool*
  17. Just chiming in with another Berkeley rejection. At this point I'm just glad to be hearing back even if it isn't the most positive news. Hopefully the insider info on Columbia releasing tomorrow is right and some of us get some nice offers.
