  1. The wonderful graduate admissions personal at Berkeley told me that everyone will hear by the end of next week, but made no comment about whether they will be letting anyone else in. I would guess that they are done with acceptances, but you never know.
  2. I agree. It'd be nice to hear, regardless of the outcome. It's also sort of sad to imagine someone who actually enjoys writing false gradcafe postings. Get a hobby (or a job)!
  3. Until SuddenlyParanoid gets in, I think we can assume they are probably false.
  4. Haha, am I the only person who thinks the combined waitlist/admit day is a strange idea? I mean, it'd make more sense if they just accepted you without funding and said that you might get funding if enough people decline their offers. As is, it sounds like pure awkwardness. I am very curious to hear how it goes! Oh, and the summer will hopefully be a roadtrip to wherever I end up (if I can make some money before then). Damn you recession!
  5. I think recommendations are a lot more important than many people on this board seem to think. It obviously varies from school to school, but judging by people's results here, they seem crucial.
  6. It's actually quite easy to track down reading lists! If you go searching around political departments' websites, they usually have reading lists for courses posted, so you can just grab the one for your subfield. For example: http://government.georgetown.edu/graduate/grad/readinglists/ Internets, FTW!
  7. I think a lot of people are just cautiously skeptical of big name acceptances, because some from Brown/Harvard/Berkeley were already proven to be false. As with those, the Princeton acceptances smell a little funny because they traditionally let everyone know at the same time (and accept 40 people!). So, those posted might be true, but people are understandably cautious.
  8. I think it's actually quite common to get into UCSD and be rejected by Northwestern. UCSD's acceptance rate has been around 25% the past two years, while Northwestern's has been 11%. I think UCSD has a larger incoming class and lower yield than Northwestern. Admittedly though, the comparison doesn't take into account the quality of the applicants, and says nothing about which school has better training/faculty.
  9. Double Post, apologies!
  10. Another UCSD admit here. Here's hoping they offer enough aid so I can make the trip!
  11. Apparently it did though, since people got $25,000 and $4,000 for summer last year
  12. Maybe, but last year they took two days to notify all acceptances. Congrats to those that got in, and good luck to those still waiting!
  13. It was a personal email, so I assume most people still haven't be notified. They seemed to be spread over a couple days last year.
  14. Duke is indeed sending out acceptances today.
  15. Congrats! Was it a personal email or form letter?
  16. If there's anybody still waiting on Wisconsin, they finally updated my MyWisc, so I think they're done there.
  17. Not necessarily. It is actually higher, but doesn't mention anything about summer funding. It'd be nice if someone who got in posted something, but it could easily be true. I mean, I saw that one of the lurkers has a UC-Berkeley acceptance in his/her signature, so even those might have been accurate!
  18. It's possible you were waitlisted, since those seem to be mailed as well.
  19. Try to learn an instrument! And to echo cpaige, I got a letter from Wisconsin and they still haven't gotten around to changing my online status, so they might not be done yet.
  20. Check the results page.
  21. Hm, I can't see them letting in many more people. I mean, if they are shooting for a class of 12-15, they must only let in 20, and 5 of those have been claimed on the board. I dunno, maybe I'm underestimating the influence of this forum, but do more than 1/4 of applicants post their results? Either way, I'm super curious about the political analyst with the 2.99 and sub-600 GREs.
  22. Hmm, I feel like we just had this conversation, but I wouldn't bother thinking about it until you hear back from other places.
