I would say no. If you are that concerned, I would try and contact the professor directly and not the department.

The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) is a good one for science and engineering related things.

I've had grad students join clubs that I was in charge of. It's not strange at all really.

This something you should be able to find in like 5 minutes. http://www.csulb.edu/depts/enrollment/registration/fees_basics.html If this doesn't answer your question, you should contact the school.

Holding two offers at the same time
Rolling Circles replied to ittihad_girl's topic in 2010-2015 Archive
I highly doubt the schools are going to communicate with each other. Also, how would one school knew you applied to the other. Talk to the school you want to go to and see if they have any advice. You can rescind your offer from your first school, but they probably won't be happy about it. -
Funded PhD at UC Riverside or unfunded masters at Brown University
Rolling Circles replied to fysix's topic in Physics Forum
I am finishing up at UCR, and it is definitely good enough to take funded over unfunded Brown. -
I think it depends on what program that you're in. Otherwise I'm not sure.

I also found a little app someone made on the android market with all of the Purdue bus routes and things. It's actually pretty cool.

"b" average applicants
Rolling Circles replied to hopefulNJSLP's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
What I did was just go through each class I've taken and go back 60 units. There are gpa calculators you can use to put in your units and the grade associated with them. For example, an A in a 4 unit class impacts your GPA more than an A in a 3 unit class. -
As said, if you already denied the place you want to go, then you will most likely not be able to reverse that decision at this point in time. If you got a second offer at say your number one choice, then you can probably accept that and inform the institution you already accepted that you will not be attending. They probably won't be happy about it, but just be professional, and it should be fine.

That's what you get to say in your statements. You realized that Engineering was not for you and decided to change your major into whatever you have now. -

3.4 or 3.5 GPA is just fine. It's not low. -
You should look for good programs involving bioinformatics. A lot of schools list this as Genetics, Genomics, and Bioinformatics.

Go with your #1 choice and be polite and professional with #2. -

Plus research experience and/or internships helps to offset gpa. However, all of the programs I applied for had a minimum 3.0 gpa requirement at least if I remember correctly. -

How should I ask why they rejected me?
Rolling Circles replied to JessePinkman's topic in Decisions, Decisions
Well living in Lafayette is pretty cheap at least. It'll cost me almost half to live coming from California. -

It also comes down to your research experience and letters of recommendation. Also, just because someone may appear less qualified on paper doesn't necessarily mean that they are. -
Hmm, I always figured that fell under the admissions guidelines as well and have treated it as such. I suppose in your case it is up to the school. I did have one school ask me for a decision with an approximate two week deadline which coincidentally came out to be around now, so I'm not too sure.

Huge Dilemma...out of time. Please help!
Rolling Circles replied to confusedkate's topic in 2010-2015 Archive
You need to do what is best for you. I would not drop your #1 school just because you are afraid that you will not find an internship. I'm pretty sure that your school or program will have resources available to you in that regard. -
I have been told by many to branch out and expand, so that's what I'm doing. I don't know much about your situation or field, but if option 2 is paying then I would probably go with them.

I know how you feel, I did the same from the other side of the country. I did talk to one graduate student who lived there, and she said she thought it was fine. I assume undergrads will be living there too. I'll message you my email conversation with them for your reference.
