  1. Thanks for the info! You just replied to the email in a relatively informal way, right? We don't need to compose a formal letter attachment or anything? Thanks for the info!
  2. I got the same, so I hope xodweeb is right! Good luck!

If you are reapplying to Cultural Anthro, and haven't seen this yet, make note: "All submissions to this program must be accompanied by a letter from the faculty member serving as the principal investigator (PI) of the proposal affirming that the student will be prepared to undertake the proposed research within 6 months after a DDRIG award is made, barring unforeseen events and circumstances. In addition, the PI must affirm that she/he has read the proposal, and believes that it makes a strong case for support of the dissertation research project. If the proposal is a revision, the letter must affirm that the revision deals fully with reviewer criticisms of the previous submission." Also: "Beginning with proposals submitted to the August 15, 2014 target date, a student Co-PI may not RE-SUBMIT a DDRIG proposal more than once, for a total of two (2) proposals to the CA Program. Under very rare circumstances and with the prior permission of the program, it may be possible to waive this rule once, for a total of 3 submissions." I am trying to figure out if it would be more strategic to put it off until January or just give up and resubmit in August and hope for the best this time around.

Nrrrdgrrrl, I hear you. I am wondering, though - is the person who critiqued your methods the same person who was extremely rude and unprofessional in the comments (you mentioned this previously)? If so, I would lean on the side of the other reviewer, but perhaps try to see where you might be more explicit in your protocol of some of your methods (it helps if you've already done this for IRB, or if you have done some pilot research that you could pull from). I wouldn't scrap what you have, just expand in some areas. That's my advice, though as someone who is still unfunded, feel free to ignore it... I have a question about revising as well: Do the same people who reviewed us last time review us again? I had heard that WG does this, but wasn't sure about NSF...
  5. I got my rejection email at 10:40 am. The comments were very different. The first was only complimentary and had no critiques at all, the second was complimentary with vague suggestions, and the third had some substantial suggestions. The end of the comments said: "On a scale of 1 (good) to 5 (not fundable) this proposal scored 2,7. This is unfortunately below our funding cut-off point." Happily, there is still time to revise for May.
  6. So I called them. And I asked "Is the resubmission date the same as the new submission date, even if we have not heard before the deadline?" I knew the answer to this was yes, but I figured he might pick up on the subtext and tell me what I was really after, without directly asking. And he said, "You'll definitely hear before the deadline. The submission and resubmission date is the same, but you will hear before the deadline." I also lied and said my line was fuzzy, and asked him to repeat that just so I could be extra sure. Hope restored.
  7. I don't know about what they said last time, but last year they announced first round February 7, and second round April 8. Following that model, we could find out today...
  8. I really wish Liz Lemon would speak to WG on our behalf. I'm afraid to call, since the first letter said not to.
  9. Well, if we're going to nerd out over it, I would like to offer the Bene Gesserit litany against fear: I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

Advice for those looking for apartments: the GC housing is overpriced. I've been at the Graduate Center for 5 years, and lived in a few places. I strongly recommend you check out Inwood! It's technically in Manhattan, but so far north it's practically in the Bronx. It's affordable (in NYC terms), safe, and on the 1 and A metro lines. Brooklyn is pricing people out like crazy.
