Except that I finish my BSW this term, so they pull 13 completed credits from it and top up the other 7 from my BA :/ I am sure that when I apply for 2017 I will have way less to be worried about :) thank you for your supportive words!!

I hope it works out! I know many people who didn't make it to the two-year MSWs, but were accepted to advanced-standing programs halfway through their HBSW degree! Good luck and let us know how it goes! !

Absolutely! I did everything. When I check in the 'My Documents' section as well it shows that everything has been received, with my last one being received on January 29th which was the deadline. I received email confirmation saying that my supplementary package was complete as well, and went into the link where we did the online exam and it says it was completed.

....sigh. As if this process wasn't stressful enough :-p.

Sorry to hear that, their responsiveness is part of the reason why I chose the school. I would email Sonya or even email the director, Marg McKee, and ask about that. I know I found out I got into the program in April, but I would get to the bottom of this if you can. Good luck, I am sorry you're going through this added stress!

My GPA will come from my current BSW program combined with a significantly lower GPA from my first degree, so it will put a very big dent in everything. But, the faculty knows who I am and I have years of experience, so maybe they will look at all the hoops I've jumped (taking the BSW) and how many times I have applied and take pity on me!!

Advanced Standing programs usually only consider your BSW marks. My GPA from my first degree is what held me back before I got my BSW, so I understand what you mean. The only school that may consider my BComm marks is Waterloo - and I was told that it wouldn't bear much weight on my application. York and Ryerson both said its only my BSW that they consider. If your GPA from you BSW is good, then that is what mostly counts :)

  5. Also, congrats to all who were accepted to U of T and all of the other programs!!! YAY!!!! And for those of you who didn't make it this year, keep working toward it. As difficult as it is to not take it personally (I sure did my first round of rejections) its just super competitive. It does not mean you aren't strong candidates. Do whatever you can to increase the strength of your application - it will eventually get you into a program, and it will only make you a better practitioner/student when you do finally get into a program.

    Hi there,

I was wondering if anyone has heard from York or Laurier's two year program yet?

I also applied to Lakehead's one year HBSW. For some reason, even though everything is documented as having been received on time, when I just went in to check on the status I noticed that it says incomplete. I've been trying to get a hold of the program with no luck- has anyone else ran into this problem. Kinnnnda freaking out, not gonna lie!

    Sarah

Call Lakehead campus in Thunder Bay, Sonya  is usually there and she almost always answers the phone. That's very strange that it says 'incomplete' Did you finish the online exam and did your references send everything in?

Yes, I got in - thank you!! They also offered a funding package which I wasn't expecting.

Ryerson was my first choice but then some things changed at my place of employment so I am now also considering Dalhousie distance program, which I was accepted to as well. Ryerson's program looks so amazing though...

Congratulations!!!! I can understand your predicament, especially if you were offered a position at your place of employment. Would you be able to go to Ryerson and still continue with your position? I would speak to Ryerson and see what they say. My roommate from Lakehead says the MSW at Ryerson is as intense as the one-year HBSW at Lakehead, but I also know some people are better at balancing school and work. But I also know placement is 3 days a week in the second semester, so its not so bad. They may allow you to do you placement at your place of work depending on the circumstance.

What did they say? Did you get in!? Has anyone else got a call? My RAMMS still says no offers to confirm or reject at this time :( Can you tell I'm anxiously waiting lol.

I emailed Ryerson yesterday. When I called and spoke to Milene, she told me to email the director as I only have a few days to accept York's offer. The director, Jennifer Poole, emailed me back and let me know the committee decided on rolling acceptances this year. That means they called 15 people yesterday/today and are giving them time to reply, then they are going to call the next 15 in 10 days so this way they know how much funding to offer each successful applicant. They don't want to send everything out at once so this way they can give a concrete funding offer right away. That means if you didn't get a phone call, you still might make the cut, there are 40 spots so 15 doesn't cover all of them.

I received a phone call from Ryerson about an hour ago.

That's awesome!! That must mean you were accepted, congratulations!!!! :D My classmate is currently in the program and she LOVES it!!

Thank you for posting this! I was considering calling them tomorrow to inquire about it. One of my references completely forgot to send my reference in despite my relentless asking and it was 2.5 weeks late - so I don't feel very good about my chances :( I went to MUN for my first degree and I would love to be finally have a solid reason to move home, so fingers crossed!!!

oh no :( I have been there with the reference situation! I am so sorry, that sucks. Its frustrating how the schools often pin that on the applicant, even if the applicant doe the best they can. At the end of the day, the applicant only has so much control over the references. If they accepted it by now, hopefully it won't hinder your chances. I am rooting for you!

I got accepted into a masters at UNBC but the funding is limited. Is it worth pursuing masters if the school has limited funding??

I specifically applied to York because they have great funding so it all depends on your needs.

Depending on the school, you can also do a TAship - they pay well and are usually around 10/hours per week. I know the funding at Lakehead for the MSW is contingent on a 10-hour-a-week TAship and it covers tuition costs at the very least.

York's funding is contingent on a GAship, which is 5 hours a week in the lab/assisting a professor.

Generally, both TA/GA come with benefits. Its worth looking into UNBC and seeing if there are TAships and GAships for you to pursue. That will help you more with your decision.

Just got notified that Ryerson is meeting tomorrow to make the decisions, and then people will be getting an individualized phone call with their results soon after. Good luck everyone.

I got accepted to York with pretty generous funding. BUT I'm having trouble calculating the tuition.

The webpage that displays graduate fees indicates that each full-time term is around 1,800. Wouldn't this make the 3-term Advanced Standing program under $6000?

That seems VERY low. Not that I'm complaining.. I'm just suspicious because the other schools are over $10,000.

Hey I was accepted to York as well! Congrats! Anyone else accepted to York?

I actually called Emma and asked her about Tuition, and it comes out to $5400 for the 3 terms ($1800 per term). I was pleasantly surprised at how low tuition is and honestly it made the funding package even more enticing.

I don't know about you, but I am so torn now between Ryerson and York. I called Ryerson and asked them about their admissions decisions as well, explaining that I was accepted to York. They told me that they are meeting March 1st and would let those admitted know ASAP, I don't think they expected York to send out admissions decisions so early and require a deposit so soon, at least the is the impression I got on the phone.

    Good luck to everyone!

Congratulations on getting into York!!!!!!!! I read your earlier post about your long journey to the acceptance and I'm so happy you got it, you are most deserving (and resilient, a key social work quality)! I was just wondering, looking at your signature I see that you didn't apply to U of T this time around whereas you had applied several years in the past, I was just super curious about if there was a reason for this?

I PMed you with a long answer, haha I didn't want to take the focus away from the forum. Also, I really appreciate your comments about my resilience, you're an awesome social worker! Thanks for highlighting my strengths, it made me feel all warm and fuzzy :D

Congrats on U of T! You must be thrilled!!

There are lots of doubts going on in this forum! You all have stellar stats so do not worry too much, it is not healthy ;) Many qualified applicants get rejected each year because schools assess students differently (UT puts a lot of emphasis on research capacity)

Also, I noticed that not a lot of people are talking about west coast schools. UBC Okanagan has a good clinical social work program and it seems to be less competitive than others. Just wanted to throw that out there!

I second that! Its worth applying outside of Southern Ontario if you can, the schools are great and they seem less competitive. Its so easy to have ups and downs during this process, but staying positive is key. At the end of the day, there are amazing future social workers who don't make it in every year and it doesn't speak to their abilities. A huge part of the process is also sheer luck!  keep persisting and you will get there :D

I only just graduated with my BSW this summer so im defiantly lacking in the post bsw experience  (although Ive worked in child welfare in a capacity other then as a social worker for the last few years). My average is  89% so hopefully that makes up for a bit of lack of experience lol. I applied to Waterloo only (defiantly regretting this decision now though). Im half thinking if I dont get in...I might try New England University. I have heard its clinical stream is good, its all distance, accepted by casw, and they are still accepting fall applications....but its super expensive!

Your average is solid! I had a 91% average in my BSW and I was just accepted in the first round of offers at York. I think you will be okay, in fact I think it would be silly if they didn't accept you! If you are working now, I would recommend waiting another year before applying to American universities if you can. Tuition will set you back :( (But I contemplated the same thing at one point! So I know how you feel).

Wow, that is pretty competitive. That's good to know about the placements, thank you! :)

Yeah I second what MSW-UofT said, its a lot more competitive than people think. They have over 500 applicants for both Orillia and Thunder Bay, and Thunder Bay only has 20 people in the class. I think the experience between campuses are quite different so its great to hear about both! I agree, it will get you to your final goal (it did for me!)
