  1. Rejection from NYU PhD, but "rejection" email began: "On behalf of Interim Dean Anna Harvey and the Graduate School of Arts and Science, I am very pleased to tell you that you have been admitted to the Master of Arts program in Politics. You may register for the fall, 2017, semester."
  2. I hope no Duke yet otherwise my application season is in pieces
  3. If we consider Berkeley and Princeton as rejects, I am three rejections and await on 6 more humbly (and why not count princeton and berkeley? In Russia, if something goes away and you don't hear more, you assume is gone). If doctor of science of politics don't work out, I will pursue career in husbandry of animals. I feel especially drawn to moose and fish.
  4. Nothing from Princeton on my end, so probably rejection. But everyone else who didn't get accepted, no worries! I hear if you get rejected from Princeton on three different occasions, you get a free ice cream cone at Queen of Dairy! Just waiting for official letter to collect my frozen bingo treat.
  5. Claiming UCSD rejection. My hopes for warmer weather are sinking.
  6. Trolls will be dealt with in most humane manner possible
  7. Don't crimea a river: Yale is troll, admissions committee still stalin. Better baikal up if you want to bear next few weeks.
  8. Gotcha. Figured that was most likely the case. And yes, not terribly helpful to make the subject line, "Pre-Departure Orientation." Minor heart palpitations on my end as well, although Alyssa sent me the orientation email a solid week after notifying me of my standing as an alternate.
  9. Quick question for alternates, and especially Eurasia alternates: Did you receive an email from Alyssa Yeng (or your program manager) about attending Pre-departure Orientation in the event that your status changes? I would assume this is standard practice these days, but I don't believe they sent out anything like that three years ago. (I was an alternate then as well. Sigh.)
  10. 6:00 pm EDT. Another day, another week has come and gone.
  11. Very sorry to hear that, I was rooting for you as well! Best of luck to you in your future endeavours!
  12. I applied full research. This is actually my third time applying in four years (was an alternate one year and then dutifully and rightfully rejected another year because of some problematic, vague wording in my research proposal). Sigh. It would be lovely if we could both fill those projected two research spots, but this process never disappoints in being unpredictable. At least if it doesn't end up happening for me this year, I have a really solid grad school option where I received fellowships to study Armenian and Russian and funding to do research in Armenia next summer. So I'll make it back one way or the other, but of course Fulbright would be ideal. Best of luck to you! As odd as it might sound (although the Armenian community both in general and academically is pretty tight-knit), I actually think my friend and former classmate knows you. I'll message you so as not to divulge personal details on the forum.
  13. I think the only Eurasian country to send out notifications is Moldova, and those were sent out late last week. The other countries (Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, and the Caucasus) have yet to hear, and much of the Balkans is also silent on the news front. I'm an Armenia applicant, but I'm really pulling for you Ukraine and Russia applicants. I know that the Fulbright program stayed operable during the brief war between Russia and Georgia in 2008, but obviously this situation is more tenuous and fraught with uncertainty. My impression is that the State Dept. will try to keep the program going unless there are extreme extenuating circumstances. I'm hoping that the situation right now doesn't devolve into something that would qualify as that type of circumstance. Fingers crossed for you guys.
  14. I'm with you - the wait is starting to become a boorish bore, but poor, poor Alyssa Yeng. She seemed beleaguered by requests for information when I spoke with her two weeks ago, and my bet would be that, if anything, the requests have only increased in frequency. I understand that providing information and answering questions is all part of the job for Program Managers, but I'm sure they must get a little overwhelmed by our (quite understandable) neuroticism, especially when they themselves are waiting for various pieces outside of their control to come together . I feel like they (the Program Managers) probably go on long, well-deserved, Pina-Colada-fueled vacations in the tropics after the last notification from their region is finally sent. Anyway, the sooner we know, the better for all parties involved. I'll be curious to hear what Alyssa has to say.
  15. Agreed. I believe applicants have heard up until around 5:45 / 6 pm EST. I would be surprised, though, if there is any more news today, considering it's Good Friday (for some). Granted, it's not an official federal holiday, but many places shut it down and pack it up early. Took a trip up to Capitol Hill today around 3pm and the halls were emptier than they usually are on weekends. Here's to hoping next week is more fruitful.
  16. When I called Alyssa Yeng on Thursday, she did mention that they are hoping to have notifications out this week, since the person who can move the process forward is back in the office this morning. However, she didn't sound terribly confident that they would get it done within that timeframe, and added that next week could be a possibility as well. Not sure how much point there is in speculating, but my money would be on Thursday or Friday of this week, if at all.
  17. Happy to do it. Most grad schools require notification of acceptance by April 15th, so I thought it would be valuable to get a general time frame for Fulbright. I'm not sure how the pecuniary breakdown of regions goes, but the Fulbright program actually saw an increase from FY13 of over $2 million dollars in funding. Again, this is for Fulbright as a whole, so that includes the scholar programs in addition to student programs. (here's a pdf of the FY14 state dept. budget, in case there is any interest - http://www.state.gov/documents/organization/207305.pdf )
  18. No. Eurasia is Russia, Armenia, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Moldova, Belarus, and Ukraine.
