  1. Hey All! I am a Fulbright scholar and am being sent to the City College of New York's (CCNY) Mental Health Counseling (MHC) Program for Fall 2016 this year. However, my application is still pending at Teachers College, Columbia and their decision was not waited for before deciding where I should be sent. At this point I am deciding between going to CCNY's program this year VS waiting another year and seeing if I can get into one of the elite counseling schools out there. I am thinking that a better school would provide me with a better opportunity for PhD admissions later on as well as better work opportunities. Please advise!!! Thanks!

  3. Hey, thanks for such an elaborate answer, it's really helpful. So I heard from them about the interview via email on the 16th of March. And since I'm in Karachi, my interview will be held via Skype. Thanks again for your help!
  4. Hi All, I have recently gotten an interview call for the MA in mental health counseling at City College of New York. Could anyone give me any tips as to how the interview will go and how to prepare for it? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
  5. Hi All! I just wanted to ask if anyone here knows what is the class size that Columbia's Ed. M in Counseling admits? Also has anyone heard back from them regarding admission decisions yet? Thanks!
  6. So I have a bachelors degree with a major in Economics. I took a number of courses in psychology during my undergraduate studies and then landed up in a job which is not related directly to counseling. Right now I want to build up "relevant experience" for my application and cannot understand what that might be and how i will get it without a major in psychology.. Please help.. Also will teaching psychology as a subject at school beef up my app? Thank you!
  7. Thanks a lot psych21 and FeelGoodDoGood. Both of you have been an immense help in clearing up a big confusion.
  8. Thank you for your reply. I am definitely going to look at Experimental Psychology programs. However, do Counseling programs not offer research opportunities?
  9. Hello All! I am new to gradcafe and am currently in the process of making a decision regarding whether to apply for a Masters in Counseling or Counseling Psychology. I eventually want to complete a PhD or PsyD in Counseling Psychology, however since I lack research experience as well as being an international student I first want to do a Masters degree. According to my research there are very few Masters programs in Counseling Psychology while there are many Counseling masters programs available. Now should I be applying to Counseling or Counseling Psychology programs? And does a Masters in Counseling hinder in an eventual pursuit of a PhD in Counseling Psychology? Also which stream of Counseling would be best to pursue in terms of aiding with future admission prospects into PhD programs? Mental Health Counseling, School Counseling? Lastly, what are good schools for Counseling masters? Thank You!!!
