  1. Hey littlegirl! I was actually rejected from UCI and UCR's programs; the budget fiasco in California has made a nightmare for admissions at state uni's - they only admitted 5 or 6 students, so I probably didn't stand a chance (absent a Master's degree). Fortunately, I was admitted to Cal State Long Beach's Criminal Justice Master's program. Apparently they only accepted a handful of applicants, as well - but in this case, I was better poised to compete. Anyway, the program is fairly well-respected out here, and half the faculty seem to have graduated from UCI, so perhaps I'll try for UCI again when I'm done. Anyway, best of luck to you and hopefully we'll all stay in touch. Brian
  2. Things have REALLY quieted down around here, eh?
  3. LOL. You don't miss a beat, do you, sba? Okay, my neuroses needed a good checking.
  4. Did you ever get in at Irvine? And at what point did they let you know you were on a shortlist? I'm curious because I know rejection letters went out (and were received) late last week, but... I haven't rec'd one yet. Thanks.
  5. True, but I think I'll leave this one to fate ;-)
  6. thanks, sba... i'm hopin it's good news, but i'm prepared if it aint ;-)
  7. No, it wasnt. And nothing came in the mail, either. Hmm... ;-)
  8. So I just noticed in the "Results Search" that someone has received a rejection letter from UCI. Anyone else hear anything? My anxiety just increased.
  9. I haven't heard from UCR yet, but I did apply later. Is the Sociology department having a recruitment weekend; if so, when? I would love to compare notes with you if you're willing. :-)
  10. Right? And they've been known to admit in the Winter, as well, though they do not recommend it.
  11. Am I crazy? I just applied to UC Riverside's PhD program in Sociology - they offer an emphasis in Criminology & Sociolegal Studies. I don't relish the idea of living in Riverside, but the program seems strong, and with the current budget crisis in California, applying to only ONE PhD program (i.e., UCI) seemed senseless.
  12. WOW. Did anyone catch the John Jay rejection in the Results section?
  13. I haven't heard *squat* - but that's not cause for alarm as CSULA's deadline was only 3/1, and CSULB's is not until 5/1 (though I submitted my apps well in advance). Can you believe I'm getting bills from Univ. of Maryland even though I never completed my application?
  14. Well it seems as though you are going to have some decisions to make here pretty soon. Not familiar with Mason's program or its ranking. Does it interest you at all?
  15. You GO girl. Did you update the Results Search?
  16. So... No one else has heard anything yet? Poor us.
  17. Yes - there is a GREAT book... "A General Theory of Crime" by Gottfedson & Hirschi. Do you know it?
  18. I guess it would depend on what you wanted to do in the long run. If forensic mental health is your interest, John Jay would probably be most appropriate. Irvine is a great school, but I can't imagine anyone choosing South Orange County over New York City ;-) (I'm a native New Yorker living in Southern California; I speak from experience). Anyway, congratulations again!
  19. No word yet, but recruitment weekend isn't until the end of the month, so there's still plenty of time. Even beyond that, I will still keep my hopes up until I hear otherwise. ;-)
