I'm a little puzzled that your app was even looked at since you didn't pay the fee (although super impressed that you were able to do that and happy for you--as I am admittedly jealous). Makes me wish I didn't fork out the fee...especially if I'm rejected! But congrats to you!

Congrats to all those who were accepted or waitlisted! I'm just wondering if anyone knows if Michigan is done sending out acceptances, since they've already sent out notices to wait listed folks. I keep checking my status on their website, but it doesn't indicate anything other than that my app was submitted. Anybody else in the same boat?

thanks to both of you for the clarification! i have seen premodern used, but not sure what it's referring to -- sometimes it seems to refer to renaissance, but if ren is also early modern, it seems weird that early modern would be wrapped up in the term "premodern" -- i guess i'll have to leave the confusion to you old lit folks

hey, so i'm just wondering...does this mean you were accepted at berkeley? that would make 2 acceptances that we know of (yours and the person who posted on the results page). i also wonder if you know anything about when they are finalizing their decisions (i got the sense that you know something and am hoping that you'll share).

This might be a silly question, but...what is the difference between Renaissance and early modern? And would premodern encompass early modern? Sorry if this is hugely ignorant. I'm a modernist and am so confused by all the pre 19th century categorizations. (especially since I often hear Renaissance being used interchangeably with early modern and premodern. Thanks for enlightening me!

I LOVE this! You totally nailed all of my anxieties/moments of panic and desire to drink myself into a stupor in which it all doesn't matter. Although Jessebee has a point -- there are way too many times that I'd have to take a drink, that I would probably die before I got accepted at my top choice.

For what it's worth, the English department's website at Upenn says that they will be making their decisions in February. And as far as I know, they don't do interviews. So hopefully that is true because I'm applying for English and haven't heard anything...although I just saw on another thread that they got a ridiculous number of apps this year (700!) and are only admitting 5 students, so....i'm not putting too much stock in this one. good luck to all of you comp lit and languages folks! I hope the numbers game isn't as bleak in your neck of the woods!
