  1. More intel from my end: I was told I'm being moved to MA consideration (I applied for a PhD). This was on the 24th of Feb. Followed by a slew of emails why an MA from Chicago is a good idea.
  2. I did get a fellowship from UCI. I might turn it down though, so a spot may open up for someone!
  3. You have awesome in-laws! What do you think about the selection so far? One of the things VJ said was that they (she and Yopie Prins) tried to make an argument out of the anthology. It's refreshing given that they acknowledge how anthologies aren't really "neutral" after all. Certainly reflects their "New Lyric Studies" practice. I am reading Claudia Rankine's Citizen, which just came out. Big fan of contemporary poetry, and of Rankine in particular.
  4. Thanks for the welcome! I can't help but reply b/c I'm working my way through Dickinson's Misery right now and it seems to fit your interests quite well -- (Dickinson dash there) -- so you should definitely check it out! It has lots of pictures of dead crickets and other random things Emily used to send with her mail (!) Oren Izenberg is also at Irvine and works on poetics. That's two for the dissertation committee! My fingers are crossed for you already.
  5. I've been lurking and lurking, so I figured I should come say hi to the party. It didn't seem fair for me to get all the gossip but to give none of it out (in due time)! My favorite class, which solidified my intent to go on, was called "Modern Theory of the Lyric." The textbook was the Lyric Theory Reader, and once V. Jackson herself came to say hi and talk to us. I know there are many fans of VJ on this site She signed my copy of "Dickinson's Misery" of course.
