  1. Many thanks for the thoughtful responses. I am very excited about graduate school and am trying to be as prepared as possible. The advice of current graduate students is invaluable!
  2. Hi everyone! I'm a new admit for fall 2015, and since I've been spending a lot of time trying to imagine what life will be like as a graduate student, I'm curious to hear from current grad students. What has surprised you most about graduate student academics/life?
  3. I've just been waitlisted at Stanford.
  4. Congratulations! From what I hear, College Station is a lot of fun!
  5. Incredible! Congratulations!
  6. Does anyone know where to find that very extensive list of questions to ask about a prospective graduate program? I've been looking for over twenty minutes, but some of the threads on this forum have gotten very long, and I can't seem to find it. I'm so excited to have a reason to review it more carefully! Thanks for the congratulations! I'm not telling any of my friends in real life until I get the paper acceptance, so it's awesome to have such a supportive online community to share news with.
  7. So, I was accepted today. I'm going to graduate school!!!

  8. I received an unofficial acceptance by phone from a POI today! I can't say where yet because official acceptances haven't gone out, but I'm so excited! Congratulations to everyone else who has received good news and best wishes for speedy acceptances to those still waiting!
  9. I hope those of us who are still waiting for our first acceptance get good news this week! While I couldn't be happier for all of the new admits, I am embarrassed to admit that I am developing an always-the-bridesmaid-never-the-bride complex with regard to acceptances. I want one of my own!!!
  10. Congratulations to the new Northwestern admits!
  11. Congratulations!!! Could you tell us more about the email? Was it a form email or from a POI? Did it direct you to the website? Feel free not to answer, I'm just dying to know more right now... Congratulations again!
  12. Congratulations to those who received USC acceptances! On my own behalf I'm feeling sort of miserable, but I'm happy for you guys!
  13. I, too, received my Madison rejection this morning. Oh well. Living in Wisconsin would have been a bit of a struggle for me anyway. I go into hibernation if it drops below 50 degrees.
  14. Wow, I'm really starting to freak out over here. Now that acceptances are starting to go out, I can't even imagine what I'll be thinking a month or two months from now. Congratulations to the new admits! I'm so happy for you!
  15. We're almost there! I'm turning in the last of my Dec. 15th applications tonight. Then I just have 5 more. This has been absolutely exhausting...
  16. I agree. It sounds sort of brutal at first, but if you think about it, a writer's first job is to keep people reading. If you can't keep the admissions committee reading, how will you keep your colleagues reading later on when you're job hunting? The treasure hidden on page 7 will never be discovered if everyone falls asleep during the introduction. Now, I think I'll go frantically open my writing sample and scrutinize my first page, again... Also, this is my first post after a year of lurking... Hi folks.
