  1. Hi! I have an interview tomorrow for funding, and I was told I could additionally prepare a few questions to ask the interviewer about the program (I haven't committed yet). I have a general idea on what I'd like to ask, but I wanted to see if you guys had any suggestions, in case I'm forgetting something. My main question now is concerning clinic, how many clients you see, and placements for internships. Thanks!
  2. Georgia State in Atlanta GA offers GAs with tuition waived to anyone who is willing to work. Hard to manage sometimes, but always an option there. Edit: GAs are graduate assistantships.
  3. Gallaudet is the worst for getting in touch, but try calling the SLP director, Brenda Seal. She's been super helpful when I've been able to reach her. Let me know if you end up deciding there, because I'm leaning GU myself!
  4. I have no idea how UCF's admissions process is organized, but I do know they offer admittance every semester... maybe they do rolling/defer for other semesters? I was accepted to UCF, but I turned down my acceptance today as they offered me no financial aid and I'm an out-of-state applicant. I hope this helps you! Also, I called the CSD department earlier to ask about funding, and the lady on the phone was incredibly helpful, and super friendly! It might be a good idea to call, and they're great!
  5. I'm in a similar place, except I was rejected from my two tops, and Gallaudet was in its own realm of excitement haha. So it's either stay at my in-state schools (in areas I know well/am comfortable with), or the big exciting DC haha. I'd have to visit Gallaudet before I make a decision, but I really would not like to visit until I have some tangible proof I was accepted. It was funny because when the program director called me back, she was super helpful and nice. I felt very relieved. I e-mailed her the next day about visiting (had to price it before I asked her on the phone), and nothing. Called her yesterday morning and left a message, mentioning how I'm far away and I want to visit. Nothing. It's so confusing! At the same time, I've emailed my other in-state schools questions and they aren't responding either. I can't tell if everyone's just overwhelmed or what's up, but I really want something concrete. Have you ever visited since you're (maybe) somewhat close?
  6. This is really frustrating. When I called the department last week, they told me I had been accepted, and to expect a letter in the mail soon since they had been mailed. I'm 12 hours away so I thought it might be late because of that, but this is ridiculous. I'm getting paranoid they told me I was accepted in error because they haven't returned my follow-up calls or e-mails. Audiology people from Gally have already received letters of admission AND funding information. I need both of these items to make a decision since the move for me would be seriously costly. And April 15th... is that just not a thing to them?
  7. I have no idea! I applied on a whim, and I'm out-of-state. They didn't say anything about funding.
  8. I did, and I did! But it appears I am the only one who has posted about it haha.
  9. I know nothing about those programs, but I would recommend calling the program director. I hadn't heard anything from one of my schools, so I called the director. She didn't answer. Left a message. She called me back that evening. She was really concerned I hadn't received a letter yet, and she told me I had been accepted, and she also told me some valuable information regarding funding. I still haven't received my letter (IDK what is going on) but I'm really glad I called. Most program directors are super helpful!
  10. Hey! Just out of curiousity (I applied to Gally), how'd you get the impression they focus on teaching ASL over spoken English in their aural rehab programs?
  11. Gallaudet people! I called the department last week and they told me they had sent decisions letters out. However, I have not received mine. Has anyone else?
  12. Also, when I say they can put you at other cities, I mean at your request. Many people elect to do their medical internship at home, to save money on rent. My hometown is smaller than Athens, so I'd prefer to go somewhere new, like... Charlotte, NC. They might not be able to give me notice until close to that time, and I have no family there, I just would like to move there. Does that make sense? They won't just throw you somewhere without your input.
  13. I'm torn between them. UGA's campus is beautiful. I've loved it here. But the clinical placements aren't as diverse as they would be in ATL. UGA offers to put you in other cities, but you need to make sure you have people you can live with because the placement might be delivered short-notice. Georgia state used to be famous for giving assistantships but this year they're going about it differently, which worries me. I was nominated for an assistantship at UGA, but they aren't telling me for two weeks if I was selected or not. So much to consider! Have you e-mailed Dr. Lindstrom about UGA's out-of-state tuition waiver? It seems to be pretty accessible.
  14. Yay! Do you think you'll be attending either of those?
  15. Am I the only one from Georgia? I feel like none of the major forums here have any input/information about schools in Georgia. I thought I'd make a post to see if there was anyone else who wanted to talk.
  16. Drat. Well. Do any of you know how likely they are to give funding to an out-of-state applicant? I'm not even sure I'm really considering going at this point, as two of my in-state schools are sounding like they might give me assistantships... but nothing is official... >
  17. Sorry I'm late to the party, but I take it that still nobody has heard from UCF?
  18. Hi I'm applying to Gallaudet for Fall 2015, and I was wondering if anyone knew what their general stance on providing funding was. I know ASHA has their stats on it, but anyone that's had a chance to visit-- do you have any information? I wasn't able to attend their preview day (I'm 14 hours from DC), and I didn't know if there was a general funding understanding like what GA State offers to most of its applicants. Thanks!
  19. Hi Everyone! I've been looking into possibly going for my PhD over my masters, but I'm not entirely sure if this is the route I want to take. Do any of you know the different kinds of jobs in CSD one with a PhD could obtain other than becoming aUniversity professor? Also, which programs offer both PhD and clinical certification? I've been trying to do my research, but inevitably everything just starts to blur together and I was wondering if anyone here had and personal experiences or advice they could share with me. Thank you!
  20. I would be able to find some time to study, but all of the plans I have looked into are extremely intensive (two to three hours a day). Do you know of any weekly-based GRE study guides? I haven't found a lot of good resources on my own.
  21. Hello! I'm a rising senior in a Communication Sciences and Disorders program in Georgia, and I have some questions about what steps I should take to make myself as strong of an applicant as possible. Some background: My overall GPA is 3.73, Last 60 is 3.85 (so far, taking physics this summer ). My resume will have my independent study with an Aphasia population, I'm NSSLHA officer, the VP the Sign Language Club, and an officer for CommunicAID Nation (new organization). I'm also a member of an Autism Advocacy group, and I have volunteered with a special needs camp a few times. I work two jobs (completely unrelated to SLP, but I have to pay the bills and most clinics don't offer night shifts ), one in which I have a leadership position. Also, I will graduate having taken all the ASL courses my school offers. (I-IV) Since I'm always busy between school and work, I was only able to allot 3 weeks to cram for GRE. My expectations were low, but I really wanted to get close to a 320. Mainly because of funding, but I also have one reach school on my list-- Vanderbilt-- and I know they like extremely high scores. I ended up with a 152 Q and a 157 V, which was honestly better than I was expecting to do. My question to you lovely people is: Should I take it again? I can't say that I can dedicate my life to the GRE- I'm taking summer classes and I work a lot. However, I did feel like there were several quantitative questions that I blanked on, but I'm unsure of how to better prepare myself the second time around with my constant lack of free time. I also felt like my heart was in my throat during the whole test. I get so anxious with standardized tests. I'm not concerned about spending the extra $185 to do better (it'd be an awesome investment if it got me funding), I'm just fearful that I will waste my money and not change my scores at all. I'm also not entirely clear on the significance of GRE scores in terms of determining GA positions. I would really like to be eligible for one, and I don't know if a 309 is enough to cut it. Sorry this post is so long, but just in case anyone has specialized knowledge, these are the specific programs I have been looking at. In order of preference. Also, if anyone knows the likelihood of any of these programs offering in-state tuition to out-of-state residents, please let me know! Vanderbilt USC FSU Gallaudet James Madison GA State UGA East Carolina Armstrong Atlantic Thank you so much!
