  1. Yeah, I don't *have* to know....but most of the decisions that I saw came through email.
  2. Gahhhh I see a rejection for one of the schools that I applied to!!! Whyyyyyy???
  3. Gah someone just got waitlisted at one of the schools that I applied to. JUST REJECT ME NOW.
  4. If they're gonna deny me already, they should just do it!
  5. Gaaaahhhh the wait is killing me!
  6. So....I could still hear good news yet? No one really knows...I have seen acceptances from some of the schools on the decision page within the past month.
  7. If I haven't gotten decisions yet, could it mean that I'm a "maybe?" Otherwise wouldn't they just deny me?
  8. ^Sorry, someone posted above about stats - not asking for them, but I though that a little bit of context might help.
  9. Hi all. I go to a Midwestern liberal arts college and I study anthropology and modern languages (going for anthro). My GPA is okay (3.79) and my GRE scores were all over the board (far below average Q, average V, and above average W). My recs were okay I think. Idk how my writing quality compares to other's. I'm interested in human-animal relationships, so I looked for programs that had faculty who do human-environment stuff. Human-animal stuff is not a big emphasis in anthro, so it was difficult to find departments that had more than 1-2 faculty who share my interests. The focus of my essays was my research experience (including ethnographic work in Jamaica, the college's town, and Costa Rica). One of my profs who recommended me said that I was a "strong" candidate, whatever that means. Also I'm one of those people who likes to plan, and now I'm looking into jobs in case grad school doesn't work out. My school has a partnership with Henan University in China where I might apply to teach English for a year. I don't know any Chinese, though.
  10. Hi all. I've been rejected to three programs so far, and I got these rejections a few weeks ago. For these schools, would I have been a weaker candidate? What does it mean if I have not heard from the other schools yet?
  11. Thanks for the insight! I got my first grad school rejection already. I hope that I get accepted somewhere, though.
  12. ^ I did apply to McGill. Long shot if I get in!
  13. I thought that everything was A-okay with my application for Maryland, but then I happened to log into my application today and I found that my GRE scores had not been received. Turns out that in October I sent them to U MD U Coll instead of U MD Coll Park. Shoot me! I sent them to the correct recipient tonight. Otherwise, things are alright. All of my apps are submitted. UC Davis emailed me today saying that my transcripts had not been received. I was supposed to have received an email from them with a link to submit my transcript separately from the app, but I never got the email. I uploaded my transcript today, even though I submitted my app more than a month ago. I have no idea how these late items will affect my decisions. I hope that there are no more unpleasant surprises like this!
  14. Yep. I just wish that this was 2016.
  15. I don't know - my advisor said to go with biocultural. I didn't think that it would be a big deal.
  16. Hi all. I applied for an anthropology PhD program at a university knowing that I was going for sociocultural and that sociocultural only accepts students for odd years. I applied under biocultural, however, because that's what my advisor told me to do initially. Anyway, I was notified that it would be better if I transferred my app to next year's pool because I do not wish to work with any of the biocultural faculty. I just got an email saying that my app cannot be transferred to the next year for whatever reason, so I'd have to apply next fall. I'm wondering what you guys think. This school was one of my favorites. I applied to 11 more, but this one was one of my top choices. I guess it will depend more on any admits that I get, if any.
  17. Hi all. I'm in the awkward position of being a senior in college who's applying to 10 PhD programs and 2 MA programs. I *think* that I'm relatively mature, but I don't really know. What does "socially mature" mean? What does being mature in a PhD program look like? Can a new college graduate handle the social/academic demands of a PhD program?
  18. For their anthropology Phd program?
  19. One of the profs had wine in his fridge when I catsat, so...
  20. ^Yeah, I know that both of these profs drink
  21. I am FB friends with both profs and I catsat for one. I also attend a small LAC.
  22. Hi all. As the semester is drawing to a close, I am giving my recommenders gifts and cards. I have cards for them, and then for two I bought six-packs of beer that you can only get in WI. I know that both of these recommenders drink beer, but then a friend of mine told me today that alcohol is "unprofessional" to give. Opinions? Another one of my recommenders is allergic to alcohol, so I got her sparkling grape juice and I'm making Tollhouse cookies. Oh, and these are professors, btw.
  23. oooh cool
  24. Thanks! I'm applying for cultural/environmental anthro.
