That did happen, yes! And I agree with you that it's likely to happen again. Fun times! -

The best way to go about finding an answer to your question is to inquire about this with the (presumably) two schools involved- where you'd go as of now and where you'd go if accepted from the wait list. That's what I have done so I am completely clear on the procedures, as the details of them can vary from place to place. I have a feeling the next eight days are going to feel like the longest eight days of my life, haha. -

I did my part by pulling myself off the waitlist the other week! I hope that helped, although it may well not have as I was probably behind you guys on it, haha. Anyhow, thought that would be at least a little reassuring for you guys (meaning UND waiters) to know. -

So I assume just like last time, nobody will be claiming the Rochester wait-list reject from today? -

Whistler- I e-mailed DGS and was assured that things are still in flux and that I definitely have a shot of being admitted but that it probably wouldn't be until the 14th or 15th if this is the case. Also reiterated that I'm the first person on the wait list they'd offer a spot to should they be able and that there have been no offers to anyone on wait list (didn't specify about rejections). The only way the reject might have been true is if it was a person farther down on the wait list to the point where it's clear he/she won't be able to get a spot. I definitely can't wait until 11 days from now, when good or bad, there will at least be closure to this whole admissions saga. In the mean time, I'm sure the trolls will continue to have fun... -

Anyone want to claim the Rochester rejection off wait-list? -
Kalapocksa- Congrats on your wait list admit. If you don't mind saying, where was that?

By the way, I hate feeding the trolls, but I'm just throwing this out there: The Harvard admits and the Rochester off-waitlist admit are all fakes as far as I'm concerned until someone actually posts on this forum. Harvard wouldn't reject people and then let them in. Similarly, Rochester made very clear I would be the first person that they would talk to if there was an opening. Apparently the dude who's 30 and lives with mom and dad in the basement where he looks at porn all day due to his long-term unemployment started missing the fun he was having on the results postings, so he decided to mess with the people who are still waiting now or who were disappointed not to get into Harvard. Oh well, what a loser... -
I have to say I'm going more crazy now waiting to hear from my one wait list school (or at least the one whose wait list I stayed on, haha!) than I was waiting to hear during the normal cycle of February and early March. It was a lot easier then when there were a bunch of you guys on gradcafe to have for moral support. Now I feel like I'm the only one here whose future plans are contingent upon what happens with the wait list cycle. Anybody else in the same boat? Would be great to know that I'm not the only one tearing my hair out waiting for the second full week of April! Anyways, glad I got to vent

Scary to think that barring some kind of freak occurrence, all of us who've been admitted some place will have made a decision in two and a half weeks! Best of luck to everyone for whom things are still uncertain! I'm trying my best to survive! -
Outside of academia, we can...

Just quit after you finish the MA if you decide academia isn't for you...anything outside academia, the doctorate is more or less worthless... -

Hey guys- Just to let you know I plan to withdraw my offer from FSU sometime next week. I know that there were a couple of people who at one point or another during this long process said that they were wait-listed there. Hope my move next week will help someone! At this point, I am likely to attend UC-Davis next fall. However, in the event that I am taken off of Rochester's wait list, about which I should find out sometime in the next two weeks or so, then I am going to have to decide between those two. Fitting that one of the most impatient applicants like myself has seen their selection process dragged out until the very, very end... -
unfunded ranked school vs. funded unranked?

PM me with specific names and I'll be happy to offer advice. This is way too vague and overbroad to answer without more information. -

FYI to anyone wait-listed at UT-Austin. I just formally withdrew the offer that I had there. Hope this helps someone out there . -

I started one but you probably have to go to page 2 on the main forum to find it. It's something like "In Fall 2010, I Plan on Attending..." -

Keller- Just an FYI, wait-listers probably won't hear anything until late during the first full week of April or sometime during the second full week in April...at least if past results are any indication. I know that's the case with Rochester, but of course not sure about UND since I withdrew. That said, I should let people know that I will be formally turning down Rice in the next few days, so I hope this is encouraging news for anybody wait-listed there who is wanting to go. -

Congrats on your acceptance. I'd definitely go with Houston...they're one of the most under-rated unranked programs, especially if you're looking to do American politics (from what I remember, you are). Given that you have full funding and a TA-ship, I'm not telling you what to do, but were I in your position and confronted with the same choices that you mentioned, I'd have an easy time picking Houston. Best of luck! -

Congrats to the GWU admits! I have to wonder, however, why these DC schools think they're such hot shit that they can admit students without funding and expect them to bend over and take a financial drubbing while virtually all other schools offer (in most cases) tuition and plus a stipend. And PS, coming from a person who lived in DC for a year and a half, it is NOT a cheap city. -

Slow times here on the results page...seriously, how is it that these schools can't just get out their decisions, good and bad, by the middle of March? I'd be annoyed if I were still waiting to hear news (aside from whether I can be offered a spot off a wait list, that's of course understandable that it takes until near April 15). Come on, admissions God! Make this forum somewhat interesting! -

Congrats! I knew you'd find success at some point or another in this grueling process. And double congrats for waiting longer than almost any of us without ripping your hair out (as far as I know... )! It sounds like "soon be offered" is a mere formality. It means either the letter is in the mail or, alternatively, what they do at many places is the department "recommends" you for admission to the office of graduate admissions, which then officially signs off. However, this is nothing but a dumb formality in the process. Never does grad admissions then reject the department's recommendation. So yeah, hope that helps answer your question some and once again, congrats on your admission! -

Pretty cool that this forum is on the brink of breaking 3,000 posts! I think that we can assume that any rejection postings that are isolated are probably fake. Acceptances and wait listings can be unpredictable. Rejections seems almost invariably to arrive all at once... Hang in there everybody! -
Glad to see the poli sci contingent is well-represented on that list. Yeah, the stats make me realize how crazy I went last month during "high season" of acceptances.
