  1. To those who have applied to UCSD: on your application status page, do your GRE scores say "Not received?" I know they have the warning on there that says they may not post until you're offerred admissions and that we shouldn't panic, but I just wanted to see how many people have this "not recieved" message. Sorry, I'm getting really neurotic.
  2. Haven't heard yet, but I fired off an email to the admin about it. Can't hurt to ask. She's super nice and very helpful.
  3. Michigan will be next week, too. The graduate coordinator indicated that decisions would be made the first week of February. Also, Duke has apparently made it's recommendations to the Graduate Admission's office; decisions should be out next week.
  4. After yesterday's slaughter, today feels quiet . . . too quiet?
  5. So...like, not this week? Maybe next week?
  6. Stanford rejected. Three decisions today; one acceptance (Davis), two rejections (Berkeley, Stanford). So....there we go.
  7. Also rejected at Berkeley. Sad.
  8. While I remain cautiously optimistic about the other decisions, it's nice to have the Davis admit. I'm making a major career shift and my plan B was to stick with what I'm doing now (which I do not enjoy). This decision has taken off a ton of pressure. I'm sure I'm not the only one in that boat. Good luck to everyone else as the cycle continues!
  9. Just got an admit from UC Davis.
  10. I would have thought we'd have Duke results by now.
  11. Thanks for the details.
  12. Anyone want to claim the Duke post on the results page? And give us some details?
  13. All 14 applications are in: UC - Davis Duke WUSTL UCLA Michigan Rochester UC - San Diego Berkeley Cornell MIT Stanford Princeton Yale Harvard Good luck, all!
  14. Ok. Thanks. I'll get to work on the math.
  15. Thanks. What should I be gunning for here (besides the obvious "Be perfect!")? There's such competing information out there on the quant score - you need to break 160, you need to be mid-160s, you can't win without a 170, you only need a 158 or higher. What's the consensus? Is there a consensus? And yes, I've checked the (sporadic) results for the last couple of cycles. I can't really get a clear understanding from them.
  16. Hey all. Just joined and looking forward to a (hopefully) successful cycle. Background: Undergrad GPA was 3.97, but I did an English/Philosophy combo (i.e. not a poli sci background in undergrad). I do, however, have a JD from a Top 20 law school and have spent the last couple of years in practice, focusing on public law (admin law, antitrust, etc). I RA’ed for an undergrad prof and a law prof (both of whom are already lined up for LORs). I've spent the last year working on a large project with a poli sci prof at a CHYMPS university (that's as specific as I'm getting) and have that LOR lined up as well. Additionally, I have a published law review article to my name. I have also spent a year as an adjunct (community college) teaching an American Democracy and Constitution course. Not sure if that last one counts for anything, but I plan to throw it on the CV for good measure. GRE is 170 V/160 Q. Waiting on the AW, but not worried. The major goal is a CHYMPS acceptance, with a focus on Judicial Politics and/or Public Law. So, couple of questions: 1. Should I boost that quant score? I've raised this in another post elsewhere, but I really wasn't getting much feedback. Is it worth the time? 2. How can I minimize the English/Philosophy background (or leverage it, as the case may be)? I see law school as the way to push passed that, since ALL of my law school training was in public/constitutional law. But I'd appreciate some insight. 3. At the same time, how do I prevent the JD from being a barrier? My long term goal was always a PhD in poli sci, but I opted to do the JD first for personal/professional reasons (depth of study, wanted a strong legal foundation, wanted some real world experience, etc.). I don't want to be seen as that guy who couldn't hack it as a lawyer and now wants to change careers. 4. Other advice from past applicants? Am I missing an issue? Thanks for the candid thoughts!
  17. Thanks, victorydance. Very helpful.
  18. Thanks for the response, Gvh. More broadly, does anyone have a sense for the quant cutoffs at some of the top programs? Magoosh publishes their own guesstimate, but I'm not sure how authoritative that is, especially since a mid-150s for quant seems a little low. Any insight on this?
  19. Posted this in "Applications" but it wasn't getting very many hits. Hoping to get a little more here. I'm applying to schools this cycle. Looking to go for Theory. Took the GRE on Saturday and got a 170 V, 160 Q. Waiting on AW. I have a JD already from a top 20 law school (the plan was always to get the phd, but I opted to get the JD first for personal/professional reasons, which I'm happy to elaborate on via message). I have a decent writing sample I've been tweaking and getting insight on. And I have three good letters committed (one from undergrad prof, one from law school prof for whom I RA'ed, and one from another professor with whom I've worked on some poli sci research projects). My question: is a retake for the GRE worth the time? Should I try to bump up that math? Or is the 170/160 combo enough to get me over the formula hump at the better schools? Thoughts?
