Does anyone know how much RISD gives in scholarships? This is the only school that's kinda mysterious to me about what they offer... I heard 10K, 20K, or 30k are given out, but is that yearly or in total? I know it's kinda unlikely that I'll be offered one if I get in, but I'm just curious what the possibilities are.

My situation thus far: I was accepted into both the fiber department and the sculpture department at SAIC. The fiber department offered me a dean's scholarship worth a total of 32,000 to be dispersed over my two years and a TA position! I'm very grateful, but 32,000 over two years doesn't cover most of what SAIC actually costs... They upped the tuition for this coming year so it's currently 45,810, so for two years in total it would cost 91,620 minus my scholarship of 32,000 is $59,620 for tuition. My parents are giving me 30,000 to use for living/expenses (as per they did with my siblings), so the 60,000 in loans would cover it for me.... I have no other loans. I'm also looking into outside scholarships. I'm considering it seriously. I had an interview for RISD on Monday and if I got in and they offered me more or comparable I might go here instead because I have something hooked up there that my rent would only be 250 monthly. I also just had an interview with carnegie mellon and penn state gave me a full ride and living stipend. I'm considering penn state very seriously as well. . What are ya'll thoughts on my situation thus far? I'm collecting ideas

I heard something similar... When I got accepted to the sculpture department on Friday, the faculty member that called me said that they haven't decided on who will get the scholarships yet.... Nerve wracking...

That's what the lady on the phone told me when I called VCU sculpture! Vindicated! Haha Who did you hear it from?

In my opinion and based on people I've talked to (art professors and curators), you are at a disadvantage going to a lower ranked school for becoming a professor, but it's a surmountable disadvantage. It might just take you longer than someone who goes to one of the top schools to become a professor. Four to eight years adjuncting and building up a resume teaching I hear would be normal. On the other hand, many of the top schools are very expensive so you'd have to take out loans possibly. Loans are a disadvantage and prison within themselves as well and you have no guarantee to becoming a professor. Yea, just my opinion, take it or leave it

Big thanks to both of you!! I emailed the school about it with my username and also I sent The school a request to be my contact through Skype. I told them in the email about my request to be their contact. Might call if I don't hear back too on Monday... Thanks again!! Thanks to technotronic too! Just saw your comment

I'm freaking out!! Can anyone help me with this, I'm technically challenged: I have a Skype interview coming up this Monday so I created a Skype account and installed Skype. I don't understand though: how does the school know how to contact me if they don't know my username? I never gave it to them because it was never asked for. My phone number wasn't included in my slideroom application either, but it is part of my slideroom account (maybe they can see it and they call people through Skype through the phone number). Also, I went to create the school as a contact and it asked for a phone number which they never gave me, just a username and a bunch of emails. But, I think they call me, I don't call them... This is making me really frustrated and nervous! Can anyone enlighten me? I'm sure I'm just being stupid/ridiculous.

Now you're making me doubt it too!! Maybe the lady I was talking to took pity on me and didn't want to break my little artist heart....

Accepted into SAIC sculpture!!! :0
-
Yea, it's true.... And someone that applied last year said that VCU sculpture puts out requests over time into March.... So this just confirms that!... Unless the person I talked to didn't know what they were talking about, but she said she looked it up on her computer.
-
Okay guys, here's some news: just called VCU sculpture and they're still putting out requests for sculpture interviews and they will continue putting them out until the end of next week. I'm tentatively hopeful
-
Congrats!!
-
For performance or photography? Geez they're really making some moves today... Could you tell us if the follow-up email contains information about if you've been chosen for merit scholarships (whenever you find out)? I'm curious about when they put that information out!
-
That's exciting!! Congrats!
-
Geez I hope it's not by letter... Too slow. Thanks for letting me know though!
-
I'm dying waiting for fibers and sculpture to call me back.... .... Do ya'll think they tell us about whether we been chosen for a merit scholarship in the initial phone call/email telling us we're accepted?
-
Got an email: Semi finalist at CMU! Hoorayyyy
-
Hey there. yea, I heard that programs that were part of the big interview day this last weekend will start calling to accept people this week (at least sculpture and fibers), but I imagine this could probably apply to other departments too.... Faculty and admissions officers confirmed it for me! Good luck!
-
Anyone hear anything from SAIC Sculpture today? Or any of the SAIC departments?
-
Yay awesome! You did it!
-
That's awesome! Also, I see SAIC on your list.... acceptances start to go out this week!! Crazy. I heard that fiber and material studies and sculpture may even start calling today. Financial aid packages sent out the end of this week/ beginning of next. ( I asked a financial aid officer while I was in Chicago and different faculty members)

Sorry everyone... Are ya'll getting emails from Berkeley about rejections? That's what I'm assuming since it's all at once.
-
Did anyone else get an email from Ohio state saying that they need to confirm the information in my FAFSA in order to "ensure that your award reflects the most accurate information"??? This seems like a good sign? ! The email didn't say I was accepted or anything, just wants me to send them some documents so they can figure out my award. I applied to their sculpture department.
-
Yay I hope so! I'm just hoping that since I've seen other schools contact people in sections for a department, that's what's happening here. But, who knows same day theory could be true too.. . Nope! What does yours say
-
Oh haha thanks! Yep. Mine says 2015 Sculpture MFA... So exciting!
