  1. IKR I've also gotten tons of generic emails like thank you for applying at xyz, I am like of course you're happy with the application fee I paid, now just get back to me with an answer! God knows how many times my heart flips when I see an email notification on my phone, lol
  2. I just realized minutes later after submission that I wrote a different first name for a professor with whom I wished to carry out research. I actually did a lot of research on him and just grasped his last name so i wrote Prof. X Z instead of Prof. Y Z, a completely different first name is a ridiculous mistake I believe and i think i hurt my chances already... have you guys ever come across any situations for your SOPs? i feel very anxious
  3. One of my prof just informed me that he would only be able to send a LOR once he is back from vacation on the 11th of Jan, however the universities deadline is tomorrow so I am not sure what to do? I do have a backup one but its going to be pretty generic while this other one is actually going to add value,,, Should I email the university admissions asking them if a late LOR would be a problem?? confused :/
  4. I am not very sure what is supposed to be written in the cover letter for the resume that I should upload as part of my application? Do I mention research interests, experience? I have that on my SoP so I don't understand how are they different? Thanks in adv!
  5. Thanks! I think it does make sense to include software in that context, listing is not the best idea. So the few recent activities I want to add, what category should I put them under?
  6. A professor has replied back to me asking for my CV, I went through google search but they all tend to show CVs of already graduated students from MS/PhDs...as an undergrad applying for grad school, what important things should I list? (Chem eng background btw) Currently I have: Contact info Education research experience work experience should I include my extra curricular activities (competitions, conferences etc.)? or that's irrelevant? where do i include my knowledge with different softwares? It's kinda urgent, thanks
  7. Ok so I was just reading through my appointment and realized the DOB mistake first, entered the month wrongly, June instead of July. Later, I realized that I used the wrong Last name, my complete name has 4 names, last one being the family name (so I entered that one) but my passport shows the surname as my dad's name (the second name) i didn't realize it earlier and I'm PANICKING now! has anyone ever come across such an issue? was ETS helpful to solve it?
  8. The website says that to be offered admission, one must have had already chosen a faculty member who has agreed to work with you, I am not sure how to start up with that, I have chosen a faculty but I want to know how to get started and if anybody has any experience with that? Thanks!
  9. Hello, So I have read everywhere that knowing the kind of research one wants to do is crucial for PhD applications, but I feel very confused about choosing an area in my major (chem eng) like biomolecular, nanomaterials etc. I don't find an inclination yet. What kind of websites/journals I can look at to read more so I have a clearer idea of what to do? I don't now where to look up recent publications in chemical engineering. Any help is appreciated, thanks.
  10. Hi guys! I'm quite stuck here as I don't know where to start writing! I am applying for PhD in top chemical engineering schools, and I want to include the following: - my interest in biochemical industry and pharmaceutical research - my research experience in biomaterial and nanofibers - talk about myself as a person (me being a woman from a relatively developing country, all rounder personality, high general knowledge and global awareness)---> not sure what to write in personal qualities? - a low gpa semester (I was sick) - why I think their program is best for me But i just don't know the order and structure of such an essay and how much should I write on each aspect? What does the committee look for in an engineering PhD SoP?? Any help will be much appreciated

  12. Well, whatever you said does make a lot of sense so I'll look into what you said. Thanks for replying! Btw, any chance you could giveme any idea about what early decision/early action admissions are?
  13. Hi all, I am a chem eng student in my last year, I have co-authored two papers and my CGPA is 3.67 as of now (2 semesters remaining and I hope to improve that; also all my semesters have a GPA above 3.8 except i messed up one when i was sick hence the lower overall). I want to apply to some of the Ivy league schools like Yale,UPenn,Princeton. But I'm not sure if it's a realistic decision? And what kind of things should an engineering student focus on in the SoP? I'm planning to do MS, but do chances differ with PhD anyway? And what are some other good schools that I may apply in the North East States? I don't know a lot of people to discuss with so any help will be much appreciated, thanks!
  14. Hi guys! I'm a fourth year chemical engineering student(cgpa above 3.5) planning to apply for grad school in the US for next year. However, I am very confused on the choice of universities: top tier schools, Ivy League, State schools? Where exactly does the difference occur and how many schools do usuall people apply to? Also, I would really need funding to support my education as an international student so does the choice of university affect the chances of receiving such an aid? I don't personally know a lot of people who have been to grad schools in US hence I'm pretty lost in many aspects, any suggestion/help is appreciated. P.S I have a personal preference for Pennsylvania, New York, Massachusetts and New Jersey. Anyone who could suggest some good universities in these states? Thanks in adv
