UCSD IR/PS Career track and Regional Concentration
Luke replied to mei's topic in Government Affairs Forum
As of right now, I'm planning on focusing on China and Southeast Asia for regional and International Politics for career. China is the logical choice for me since I studied it a bunch in undergrad and am learning Mandarin. I'm thinking about also focusing on Southeast Asia because you can use Mandarin to fulfill the language requirement. As for international politics, I'm thinking that I'd like to do government or consulting work after IR/PS and so IP seems like a better choice than international management. However, from what I've heard, you really have a lot of time to decide because your 1st year is primarily core classes. So basically I would say don't worry too much about deciding quite yet! -
I will be attending UCSD in the Fall, though I'll be doing so for international relations. Just wanted to let you know that One Miramar does not have a waiting list and there is also a chance that you could get Arris Verde (which is the new housing complex). Did you fill out your housing waiting list form yet?

Yup. Did you get placed with a current student? The one I got placed with has been ridiculously helpful in answering questions.

Got my acceptance packet today. No funding info. They sent it out March 18 so it got here pretty fast.

I'm in the same boat as you BonAppetit. Very frustrating.

I got the admitted student packet last night (I live in Boston). No funding....booo.....
-
GW decisions are available.... I'm in! Says separate email on funding "no later than March 24th".

Just got my decision - waitlisted. A little bummed out but not too much. You guys might want to check the application management site directly since I didn't get an email yet (was just constantly refreshing haha).

I also applied for China Studies! -
Did you guys get this in the mail or by email?

I just got this from admissions: Beginning of April seems awfully late. Of course that's just the latest we will receive our decision, and it could come sooner.
-
Is anyone here going to admitted students day?
-
My stats are actually on the first page, about halfway down. Good luck!
-
I was also provisionally accepted. I sent an email to UCSD and got this in response, "The prep course info will be finalized in the coming months. Student Affairs will go over each applicant’s transcripts and history to determine which courses will be required."
-
I'm going to be visiting UCSD in April and was just wondering if anyone had any hotel recommendations. Not looking for anything too fancy, but something relatively close would be preferable. Also, any dining or bar recommendations would be great.

My undergrad majors were International Relations and History. They haven't told me what classes they want me to take, but I'm guessing it's either the Economics class or Quantitative Methods. All that info is here http://irps.ucsd.edu/current-students/admitted-students/prep-program.htm

I found out by email. I've been provisionally accepted, which means I have to take some sort of a summer class before going. My stats: 3.64 GPA 690 V / 700 Q / 4.5 AW 2 years working at a law firm (unrelated to IR) Summer abroad in China (language program)

Kaixinwawa, Congratulations! I just got my acceptance today as well. I'm pretty sure that we will find out about financial aid later on - probably in March or early April. You should probably confirm that with admissions though.

Just wondering if anyone here applied at the priority deadline and has set up or had their interview. I know on the website it says they try to interview most applicants and I'm starting to get a bit nervous that I haven't been contacted to set one up yet.
