  1. thanks awkward. i knew from my visit and other conversations of the lack of diversity. i hope i can carve out some space to feel comfortable with all the things i represent.
  2. gsams, please forgive did not mean to exclude our not narrow straight folk like yourself and of course i take this into account in trying to gauge community for a person like me.
  3. Thanks AwkwardPants, essentially that is what I was asking. Big 10 type? Am not from a big ten instution nor am I from the midwest. I am also Black, I know Bloomington is not very diverse town and I assume this is the same for all things lgbt and queer. Am I wrong?
  4. Might anyone comment on queer life in Bloomington? I know it is supposed to be a blue dot in a sea of red, but if any of you care to share your experiences that'd be great!
  5. I visited last Fall and had a similar experience so I will agree with maximus82. Grad students seemed to be treated well and were very open with their experiences with the department/faculty. DGS is very bubbly and warm. EVERYONE I spoke to came across as terribly honest as to what to expect from Bloomington, IU, and of course the department (which I loved). The department as a whole is fairly diverse in terms of race, gender, and even sexuality to a certain extent. All in all, I was largely impressed though when I visited it was raining. BTW, I ACCEPTED THE OFFER! Anyone else?
  6. Accepted today.
  7. You and I both.
  8. Accepted!
  9. Same here spoke to DGS on Monday morning. Went well. Now am waiting.
  10. None. And I cannot take it. Maybe this week?
  11. Medical Sociology, Demography, Social Psych.
  12. Hopefully all three of us do!
  13. I have been itching to feel some of that Austin weather as well.
  14. Grad secretary said they meet next week, I think she said the 20th and first round acceptances will go out after that. GOOD LUCK ALL!
