  1. Up to this point, I have always called professors "Dr. X", but now I'm meeting some professors as a potential graduate student. Would it be appropriate to call a professor by his or her first name? What do you do? Seems like the grad students use first names for the faculty. If not now, when does one make the switch?
  2. I think this forum is exactly the place to be discussing "tough decisions." It's not 'neurotic' to be thinking about this now. Already I'm being asked which school I'm leaning towards from professors and friends. The usefulness of the forum is to share knowledge, ideas, and news. We are as anonymous as we want to be, so we ought to be able to be straightforward and direct. To the OP's original question: I'm trying to learn as much as I can now about the programs that have accepted and will visit everywhere I can. And guaranteed funding is very important to me. After my visits I'll start pruning my list.
  3. I got waitlisted. Anyone else in that boat?
  4. Sorry for the confusion. The don't help with the cost of travel to get there (i.e. airfare). Housing will be taken care of, and I think most food too.
  5. I applied to ND too. Not heard anything just yet. What is TC?
  6. I just got an acceptance email from UNC! (On Sunday morning, no less). Seems like different faculty are responsible for calling or email the students they are making offers too. The invite weekend in March, but doesn't include any help travel costs, which isn't great for me because I'm several states away.
  7. I was one of the ones accepted. A mostly generic email that told me I'd be received an actual packet in the mail. First five years of funding for "long semesters" guaranteed through TA, RA, Fellowships. Great news for me, but sorry to hear not the same for the rest of the eager waiters.
  8. Thanks! Just what I wanted to know.
  9. Hi all. I heard that last year the University of Texas admitted their applicants before Christmas. Well, Dec 25 has come and gone and I was wondering if anyone has heard anything from Texas? Was last year a fluke?
