  1. Anyone else out there with close family members who do not emotionally support - in fact, even adamantly sneer at - your decision to pursue academics? If so, how do you cope? I used to be able to brush off the insults and negative comments, but having to be in close proximity with said family members for the holidays has really brought me down. I'm feeling pretty crappy right now.

      I already have a masters (Intl Econ) and I am planning to get a master/PhD on Statistics. After poor GRE results, I was unable to secure admission on PhD (for Econ), so I came back to my country for a year (and did pretty well in the GRE after studying).
