  1. Lol, good luck Beatrice! I'm sure you'll do just fine. Catria, I don't know how that reputation would have come about. I'm only just repeating what I heard, which to be fair turned out to be not a completely accurate representation of my experience here. That being said, I do wish more applicants would use websites like this. That way we can hear about different people's experiences and expectations with their applications. Just from looking at the search function, it would appear that there are applicants for Classics this year who are not using the forums here. But I have also heard second hand information, from people who are already attending, that admissions to Classics is getting more competitive simply because the number of applicants have been increasing so far. Just my two cents. Hope you all are doing well. The wait is starting to grind on me. Ugh, can't let it get to me.
  2. I think that the decreased GradCafe activity comes from the reputation that GradCafe has. I think that people are told that the search function and the forums on this website are filled with fear, anger and just negative energy from users in general. I know I was warned about this, and I think because of this reputation applicants aren't really frequenting this website anymore. May I just say that my GradCafe experience so far has been nothing but positive. I think you are right too Petros, no one really knows the number of applicants this year. Maybe there are more applicants, maybe there are less. As for myself, still waiting to hear some positive news. Since Stanford and Penn are sending out interview requests, and I haven't got any, I guess I can take two out of my lists of 12 schools. Fingers crossed for the rest! Hope you all are having a good weekend.
  3. Hi Catria. This is my first year on these forums, so how does one keep track of the number of Classics applicants this year? I don't know how many people are applying this year, or last year. So how did you know that applicants are decreasing for Classics, or the humanities in general? What sort of stuff did you look at to get a sense of the number of people in the applicant pool? Sorry, I really don't know about these things!
  4. That's great news Beatrice! You are one step closer than any of us, I would say. Were you the one who posted the result on the search page? Are you applying to their Ancient Philosophy program, or something else? In any case, I didn't hear anything back and I am applying to their Department's Language and Literature program. So I guess I can take Stanford off my list too. But I'm sure you'll do fine!
  5. Yeah, I'm trying to find ways to distract myself too. :C Just for fun, and to pass the time, I was curious as to how you all decided on your usernames for this Forum? Mine's from the character of Oberyn Martell from the TV series "Game of Thrones." How did you all get yours?
  6. Thanks for the data Beatrice! That was pretty informative. Also, it's always nice to keep oneself busy, I guess. As Melian4 mentioned earlier, Stanford results should be coming out soon. I also saw that some posted the results from UCLA, though I didn't apply there.
  7. No, haven't heard back anything yet. I am really, really nervous though. How's everybody else feeling?
  8. Thanks for the info AH2015. I think that not everybody who is using the search results page posts on the forums, otherwise we would have more people on this page. Anyway, hope you all are doing well with the waiting process.
  9. I saw the results for Penn's ancient History program on the Grad Cafe search site too. I applied to the Grad Program in Classical Studies at Penn, but I believe the two groups aren't separate? So I think that I can take Penn off my list. Still waiting for other schools though.
  10. Thanks Melian4. I am applying to Classics Programs at Stanford, Brown, Indiana U, Bryn Mawr, WashU, NYU, Harvard, USC, Yale, University of Madison-Wisconsin, U Penn, as well as Emory (ancient history.) So I'm also just waiting to hear anything back.
  11. Thanks for the info! That's really quick, do you know if they will be conducting interviews at all?
  12. Is anyone here going to the APA meeting this week?
  13. Hey Everybody! I hope you all are having a productive application season. I was just wondering, is it worth it to submit an application before a deadline? On the one hand, I've heard that if you submit your application well in advance of the deadline, it helps your application to stand out. On the other hand, I would like to have as much time as possible to keep working on my application, and to keep improving it. So I was wondering, what do people think about submitting applications in advance of the deadline?
  14. Hello! I just saw that WashU has a Ph.D Program in Classics. Is that a new program? Because I always thought that WashU only had a terminal MA program. In any case, has anyone here had any experience with the WashU Classics Department? Or does anyone have any information about the Ph.D program there? I was thinking of applying.
