Is this tuition typical (Northwestern)?
debster replied to eggfish's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
From our research, Northwestern is about the most expensive in the country, and they don't give tremendously high assistantships/scholarships. My daughter is attending Vanderbilt, which is also private, but much less expensive, and they do give several part-scholarships, based on merit. We will be paying a similar amount to a public, state university. -
What GRE score should I be aiming for?
debster replied to CBG321's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
My daughter got a 4 on writing, but had really high verbal and quantitative scores, grades, etc., and got into all six of the top 20 schools she applied to. One score a bit lower seems OK, if the other parts of your app are high. Good Luck! -
Hi Jessica, I'm writing back to you for two reasons.....First, we have the same last name so maybe we are related ? (lol). Second, I just got through all this with my daughter who recently got accepted into the six programs to which she applied. You do seem like you are off to a great start, and good for you for planning ahead. The only thing I could see missing would be research experience. My daughter started volunteering in a lab at the end of freshman year, and ended up doing an honors thesis with the same lab professor. Even if you do not get a chance to conduct your own research, it is a great experience to participate in a lab. So if your school has research labs, maybe email the professors and ask if you could get involved in some way. When you do start studying for the GRE (you don't really need to until later next year), I recommend Magoosh online instruction. Megan did several books, and Magoosh, and she felt that it was by far the most helpful preparation. Good luck to you! Feel free to message me if you have other questions

Advice for a good application

Magoosh online prep.....better than all the books! -
My daughter got AP credit for psychology, physics, and statistics.....Most programs said they were all fine (only one we looked at so far that wouldn't accept stats). She only needed the bio during college.

My daughter is applying for Fall 2015. She is currently in her third year of undergrad, but started college with a lot of credits, and is graduating this May. My question is, if she is applying now, her Fall grades won't even be available yet (until Dec/Jan), let alone her last semester. So, would her "last 60 hrs" really be from her first two years?

Thanks S_Cybelle! I think the other poster started this year as well, but I appreciate your answer. -

Have you started your clinical work at CU? I'm curious to see what you think because there were a few very negative reviews by students stating that their clinical supervisors were not good. I'm hoping to hear that others have had a different experience, and that they were the exception? -

I meant funding for tuition reduction, etc. -

Northwestern was on her list, but think she's eliminating due to what we hear about no one getting any substantial funding, and the price ticket too high. But thanks! -
My daughter used several different books, apps, etc when preparing, and she thought that the Magoosh online training was far and away the most helpful. She actually thought the real test was a little easier than Magoosh had prepped her for, a pleasant surprise.

Thanks for the info. I wonder if that placement would be more for the CsCD students? I know that Vanderbilt appears to have a class and a placement with a team, and several other programs have a class, but may or may not have a placement. Was just wondering if anyone had done one in their program and wanted to share the experience. Pittsburgh wasn't on her list, but I'll tell her to take a look. Thanks! -
My daughter is applying for next fall. She has her list pretty much set, but was curious if anyone has had experience with any programs that have an emphasis or good experiences available in the area of clefts/craniofacial? I know that many programs have an elective on this topic, but any advice on programs that offer more than that (placements in craniofacial teams, etc). She had a cleft herself, has done volunteer work and gone on a medical mission with Operation Smile, and although she wouldn't limit her practice to this population, she'd like to continue her education in the area.
