  1. Hi Guys, i might be a bit off topic but here i am. i am polish, studying in uk in top 60 biomed unis world. (bsc hons biomed -anatomy specialization. won as finalist Famelab competition, writing two pubs now- neuroendocrionology and neuroscience)in summer its likely that i will have internship with a great prof who was as well at Harvard and Massachusetts (neuroendocrinology), i am third year now (one more to go). My problem is that is that now my gpa is low/ been in and out uni, was serious ill ( necrosis of stomach, cancer) and my close relative had stroke. there is still fourth year ahead of me, which in my uni actually just counts as a final grade ( mean 1,2 and 3 don't count), and i am really expected to achieve First (highest in UK), gre seems i am fine with, still learning thou. I did correspond with unis and profs and many instead of copy/paste give me nice warm words with courage to apply. so guys what u think? what would you do in my place?
  2. 3. Hi Guys. First of all i would say that i am polish, Bachelor in UK , top 60 world unis. my question to you is: Is the PhD in US dream could be reality ? if i hear that most of unis admits 1-3 international students every year, even if i find sympathy to me from course directors etc (quite specific life circumstances), i have doubt if we have really chances and if we should apply top or bottom ties, and if, then to how many unis to have some reasonable chances- 10-20 -30? i think about neuroscience , biomedical or developmental. my bsc - Biomedical Science (anatomy)
  4. Hi Guys, How to understand info as this one: "If you are accepted into the program you will receive a scholarship for the first year and in future years you will either apply for your own independent scholarships or you will be paid as a research associate from research grants of your future advisor olr you will work part-time as a teaching assistant.: Is it possible that i may be without the funding after first year? i am international, cannot work outside. Cheers
  5. i probably will go with two at same time....
  6. cheers for reply, my major concern is that i would ask one of them for my LOR...
  7. hi guys i don't know what to choose, i have option for two placements, first one is paid, neuroimaging, but the dr is local, the research is very interesting itself, the advisor is as i said local, scottish, never did any work abroad. second is for free (voluntary), processing vision and hearing stimulus, much programming in matlab, computing conected, but advisor is international, working with did post doc stanford, cambridge, oxford, works with columbia etc. many publications. What you would choose on my place?
  8. am writing with a query regarding entry requirements for international student for graduate program of PhD I am currently student of Undergraduate course Bsc (Hons) Biomedical Sciences with specialization in anatomy, aat scottish, very high in rankings uni. My course is 4 years long, ended with honours years with 10 weeks research project, and i am considering undertaking summer research project too (2 months). The Final degree grade is based on last year achievements plus overall examination. Additionally i have been a laureate of Scottish edition of FameLab ( similar concept to three minute thesis at Queensland University. AU) competition( , where i talked for example in three minutes to non expecting public about connection of brain development relation to schizophrenia). At the moment I am taking gap year for gaining some laboratory experience, and taking part in Endocrinology journal essay competition( writing article about side effects of long term treatment by corticosteroids Addisonian patients (Morbus Addisoni) on mental health (mental instability) and overall health condition . Is it possible for me in near future to apply directly to PhD and be potentially successful with scholarships ?During studies I have been ill, had couple of surgeries, and very, very bad cancer so therefore it affected performance, but my final grade is expected to be First ( on the basis of honours year grade is a final grade). Is there potentially anything more that I can improve chances for admission and stipend? From next September i will start my final, honours year. I finished as well Veterinary Technical School as a College. At the moment I am volunteering as a research assistant/ laboratory assistant and giving tuitions in my former College -Anatomical Sciences, Biomedical sciences and embryology. GPA not sure yet how much, but bad, above 3, medical certificates, gap years resits. In time of applying, do I need to send an extra documents as a proof of these extracurricular activities?
