Schools Applied to & Results: UW-Evans (accepted), UT-LBJ (accepted), and Princeton (rejected as expected) Ultimate Decision & Why: UT-LBJ because of the cost, Austin native, and they have an arts and cultural management portfolio program. Advice for Future Applicants: I started this process with six or more programs in mind, but I put forth a lot of thought into what I wanted to do with my career, and where I could actually see myself. I narrowed it down to two realistic application choices, and in the end it made my decision easier. As much as I've daydreamed about Seattle, the LBJ MPAff program has everything that I want and is financially realistic for me. It was also the school I originally wanted to attend!

I don't know how helpful this is, but one alum I've spoken to said she didn't know anyone who wanted a position at UT (whether academic or non-academic) and didn't find one. Since most positions within LBJ itself are really only for PhD and 2nd year MA students, I'm also going to try to look into the undergrad art history department for a TA position as well as the Blanton, but those positions are insanely competitive.

I'll be attending the April 6th day! The first was too short notice for work. Also an Austinite, I'll most likely be attending UT. I can't turn down in state tuition and the money I'd save not having to move out of state. And agreed on the yall, haha.

No funding from Evans, either. I made some rough calculations, and for two whole years at LBJ, including housing and food costs, it would cost less than one year at Evans. Not to mention my established professional, medical, and emotional networks are all here in Austin. The dilemma stems from the fact that I would absolutely love to live in Seattle for 2 years. I think both programs are pretty comparable though.

I didn't receive any funding either. It's between the LBJ and Evans School for me. LBJ is still considerably cheaper for me being in-state. Though it would be so nice to live in Seattle for a couple years.

I would say average for a single person is around $800-$1000 a month. If you're looking to live in some of the trendier neighborhoods, we're talking about higher than that. But it's doable. Id recommend renting a house or apartment with more than one person. You could probably find a room for $500-$600 that way. That being said, I've been living with my parents since I moved back from college in San Antonio. I can't afford living on my own here, unless I take up a part time job or want roommates. San Antonio is going to be the next Austin, mark my words. Much more affordable, and it's growing so fast. The gentrification in Austin is also an extremely hot and controversial topic. Blacks and Latinos are being pushed out to make room for all the newcomers. Many natives look down on the rapid growth of Austin. Traffic is a seriously growing problem. Affordability obviously, too. Personally I've noticed the difference in people. So many rude people lately! That being said, Austin is still a wonderful city. You'll find more genuine kindness and southern hospitality than not, and there's so much to see and do here! I would never advise against living here ultimately.

I was rejected as well. Not surprised, it was a long shot for sure. First school to ever reject me, but it is Princeton. I'd rather live in Seattle or Austin than Jersey anyways, haha! But congrats to all those accepted!

I didn't apply to Goldman, just bored at work. But Debbie Downer actually made me laugh out loud, hahaha.

That makes me nervous about the number of applicants this year. I know several extremely qualified individuals here in Austin who applied, who have great connections to the school alone. But this makes me glad I submitted my application earlier rather than later like recommended! Crossing my fingers.

I actually meant the Evans School at the University of Washington! But same boat there. No merit-based funding. Still hoping for need-based since out of state tuition is so expensive.

I'm starting to feel the impatience! I had been hoping decisions would be sent today so I could decide if I want to attend UW's admitted students day. I only ended up applying to the three programs I could actually see myself attending, so this is a bit nervewracking!

I just checked my email on my laptop, and for some reason the acceptance doesn't show up in my inbox. When I first found out, I had checked my email on my phone. Even after clicking "move to inbox" on my laptop, it still doesn't show up for some reason, yet it's there on my phone. That could be why you didn't see an email!

Yikes. Like MJA87, that's a bit of a bummer for me. Evans has possibly become my top choice after starting this whole waiting game, but it is so expensive for an MPA degree. I'll have to wait and see if I receive any other offers and continue saving in the interim!

Anyone else find out yesterday? I am so excited! I definitely was not expecting to hear back so soon after submitting my app so close to the deadline. And on a Tuesday! I can't wait to attend the admitted students day!

Yes, I know in past years it was a rolling admissions process (you can look through past threads here), but perhaps the admissions rep I met with was wrong. She also retired a few months ago. LBJ is my top choice as well since I grew up in Austin and still live here. My immediate family is here as well as all my networks. It would be a tough decision if I get in anywhere else.
