  1. Hey everybody! This weekend has been crazy for me so I havn't had a chance to post anything...but I'M IN!!! Looks like my fortune cookie was right!! haha Congratulations to all the other admits!!
  2. Hey Everyone! So I enjoyed an MSG-filled meal at Panda Express and was pleasently surprised to read the message inside my complimentary fortune cookie. It read "You will have fortune as you desire". Looks like im getting accepted... So the pressure's off for me! haha! If only it worked that way #TrueStory #PandasNeverLie Hang in there everyone!! The hour is near!
  3. Thanks rfer! That sounds like it will be fun. Hopfully we can all meet this April then! Haha, I wish I was as disciplined!
  4. Thanks for the link Ess14! I really enjoyed the video! And you've just provided me with another YouTube Playlist to help distract/inspire me while we wait! Yeah, Friday does seem to be the most popular prediction. Question: Will those who are accepted be invited to visit the campus? Posts from previous years refer to an orientation/welcome event for admitted students.
  5. Hey Ess14, You're right... I managed to find a fifth Master Class recording on YouTube but none of the others. Where can I find the rest? (particularly the one you recommend about the "average student") This could be the week everyone! between tomorrow and Friday we can potentially get our results!
  6. Hey everyone! It's been a while since I've posted anything. I hope everyone is doing well and hanging in there as we wait. I'm in the same boat as you rhfer and gradsch2015 - I have 4 midterms to take as well as one paper I can't seem to focus on my studies as I wait for the masters decisions. Thankfully my Spring Break begins next week so I can recover from my workload as well as the big news. Btw, has everyone watched the "Master Class" lectures on YouTube that HGSE posts? They currently have four posted and they're super interesting! I just watched all four this week and got even more excited to study there. I recommend you guys check them out if you havn't already. Best Wishes to us all!
  7. So in roughly 8-9 weeks we will know our admissions results! Anyone else having trouble sleeping? lol Question: Could those who have applied to the Special Studies Program please share your unique interests? I plan to create an organization dedicated to experiential career development for high-school students. I would like to know what sorts of things the other SSP applicants are pursuing to gauge how diverse or similiar we are. It would be much appreciated.
  8. Just submitted my application and so now my waiting begins. Best wishes to you all!
  9. I should also add... The advice I shared regarding the importance of GRE scores for those with little work experience came from a recent graduate of a HGSE Master's program. It did not come from the mouth of an admissions representative, so take it with a grain of salt. But it does seem quite intuitive - when lacking in a certain aspect of your application, make sure the rest shines as brightly as possible. The GRE is only one aspect of the application. Thanks,
  10. Sorry for the delayed response! I've been so busy these last couple of weeks. Well given your work experience, you probably have some breathing room with your GRE scores. At an information session I attended recently, I was told that the GRE scores are most important for students coming straight from undergrad with no work experience. So an amazing GRE score can help compensate for little work experience to some extant, BUT you should still try your best. I only say that to take the pressure off, but it's certainly worth preparing for!! I recommend one particular Youtube Channel for GRE prep. Search "Keshwani Prep" and it should come up. He has a playlist of 200 videos in which he solves every math question found in the official guide. It takes a while to watch them, but it's definitely worth it.
  11. If I was Harvard, I'd accept you! I'm no admissions officer, but your experiences are both relevant and diverse. You should submit your application with confidence because you're a very qualified candidate. I'm still a senior finishing my undergraduate education, so I don't have any full-time work experiences to list. I have a pretty extensive volunteer history and a passion for education, but I'll need to rely on my SOP to articulate that.
  12. Hey Everyone! Just figured I'd join the party... GRE Score (Revised): V: 157 Q: 153 AWA 5.0 GPA: 3.72 Work Experience: 8 years working with a parachurch organization dedicated to the mentorship and development of children. 5 years leading a small math tutoring service at my former high school. I had a year-long internship as a naturalist in my university's on-campus nature preserve providing environmental education for park visitors. Undergrad Institution (Public, Private, Ivy, etc..): Public Applying for PhD or Masters: Masters, 2015. Program: Learning and Teaching What Other Schools Are You Applying To: None I plan to re-take the GRE to improve my scores. Although not terrible, i feel like i can do much better. I'll be taking it in November.
