  1. I'm in the exact same position. I'm still looking forward to the Open House tomorrow, but I'm honestly not sure if I can pull it off financially. I'm hoping to have some clarification tomorrow.
  2. I'm going for TIE...IF my financial aid package tells me I can!
  3. As a lifelong resident of Massachusetts, I would echo these ideas. Somerville is a great town with lots going on and things get a little more affordable when you look a little further out in Medford. I spent some time on the Medford/Somerville line near Tufts and I liked it a lot. You'll still have relatively easy access to Cambridge without the high price tag. I live on the North Shore in Ipswich now, so I'll be commuting in from here if I am able to attend. It is not an ideal situation, but I'm lucky to not have to worry about moving and all the logistics that go with it. Like many of you, I am also eagerly awaiting financial aid information before making any decisions - fingers crossed. I'm looking forward to the open house next Friday.
  4. I was accepted to TIE! It has been a while since I posted, so I want to thank everyone who provided information about when decisions would be made...I've been lurking for the last couple weeks reading all those posts. I was sitting in my car with my 3 year old son waiting for my wife to get out of a store when I got the email. It was torture waiting 15 minutes for her so we could read the news together, but I managed to do it. I can't even explain how I felt when I read the decision out loud! I'm very excited but trying to keep it in check until I hear about financial aid and scholarships. Congrats everyone! I'm looking forward to attending the Ed.m open house on March 27th!
  5. I just submitted my application on Monday for TIE as well. I waited until the last day to be sure it was exactly how I wanted it to be. The statement of purpose was quite a process, but one that was worth the effort no matter what happens. In fact, the whole process has been a good experience for me. Now I need to focus on financial aid.I wish everyone the best of luck!
  6. I'm right there with you. I have 4 kids under the age of 10 and I'm teaching full time. I have a day off on Monday .... to take the GRE!!! I've spent all the time I have on the SOP, so I'm not confident about the exam. I really like the word "holistic" when it comes to the admission process! Good luck to you!
  7. Sorry for the late response to this - I've been busy balancing work and getting my application together. I went to the on campus seminar on Admissions and Financial Aid last Saturday and asked pretty much the same question about the GRE - my date is December 8. I was told that my date was about the limit for getting scores in time and that I need to be sure to self report the scores that I receive the dat of the exam on the application. The AWA is the one that will take time to report. Hopefully it will all work out. Honestly, I am a little nervous about it, but I was told that it would not be worth rescheduling the exam for the money it costs. Good luck!
  8. I attended the virtual meeting with TIE last night and found it very informative. I wanted to let everyone know that an HGSE admissions said that the GRE is only part of a holistic admissions review and, confirming what someone said earlier, the AWA is the most important component. When I mentioned that the GRE was my biggest worry, they told me they encourage everyone to apply regardless of scores. My overall impression is that they want to form cohorts with lots of diversity not only in race, gender, and ethnicity, but also in experience, age, etc. This diversity ideally promotes collaboration among people who share different backgrounds, something that I am seeking in a grad program.
  9. Thanks for the insight! I already registered for the info session. Looking forward to it!
  10. Hi Everyone, Thanks for creating this thread - it has been a very useful source of information. I have contemplated HGSE's TIE program for two years and am just now getting ready to apply for Fall 2015. As seems to be the case with many of you, I am terrified of the GRE. I took it once too many years ago to remember and it was a complete disaster, although I did go into it completely unprepared. As for my experience,I have been a high school foreign language teacher for the last 15 years. During that time, I have worked as a mentor for new teachers, served as a leader in using technology in classes, and earned National Board Certification. I also have my MA in teaching Spanish. I'm hoping to take the GRE in late November, but I don't feel great about the prospect of performing well. I'm hoping my experience outweighs my results on the test as I am not a good test taker. My other concern is financial aid and generally finding the best way to finance the program if I am fortunate enough to be accepted. Thanks again for sharing your stories and I look forward to continuing the conversation! Cheers, Steve
