  1. Wow, they disqualified for that. Now I'm scared that it will happen to me, but I think I had the correct margins. Did they email you RP15?
  2. I am UC Berkeley undergraduate looking to apply to MIT for bioengineering PhD and I saw on this page: http://be.mit.edu/academic-programs/prospective-graduate/graduate-faq that they say: What are the minimum requirements? Students are encouraged to include both biochemistry and cell biology in their undergraduate curriculums. Minimum requirements to qualify for the visitation weekend vary every year with the applicant pool, however, one can expect cutoffs around: GRE Quantitative: 160 GRE Verbal: 156 GPA: 3.8/4.0
  3. If u disregard the 2.5 years, what would u say about my chances. The 2.5 years is because of financial reasons and the fact that I am out of state
  4. @laminator: Very impressive profile! I think you have a great shot at all the schools you state (in fact, I think any school you could apply to). Coming from Berkeley, I know how difficult it is to get a 3.9 (especially in math and physics major). I work at LBNL as well, in fact I was working there today! I definitely wouldn't worry about publications. In my view, undergrads who have publications had to have 2 things: hard work and luck. If you didn't have luck in your research (because of results or you came too late in the project), then there's nothing you can really do about it. Shameless plug, but does anyone have comments on my profile? (I think it's the page before or 2 pages before)
  5. Do you think they will look much into Fall 2014 grades? I hope my GPA improves after this semester. About writing scores in GRE, I heard from a Columbia admissions person for biology that their average GRE writing score is around 4 and that they themselves don't even really understand what it's really testing and they doubt other schools that they know as well.
  6. When I say 2.5 years, I mean I started my undergrad in August 2012 as am getting my degree in December 2014. Thanks for the comments!
  7. Hello! Going to be as specific as possible without giving way too much detail. Attends UC Berkeley, Bioengineering BS. Graduating in 2.5 years, will work at a biotech startup next semester before attending grad school. GPA: 3.694 GRE: Q 170, V 160, W 4 Focus: Biomaterials, mechanobiology, micro fluidics Research: -2.5 years in bioengineering lab in Berkeley, presented poster at 5 conferences, received various awards including honorable mention for best poster at an international conference -1.5 years in biofuels/computational modeling lab at Berkeley, presented 2 posters at 6 conferences, received various awards including 3rd place prize at A conference in Berkeley -Amgen Scholar last summer, have a poster and will present in a conference soon Recommendations from the 3 research experiences Received various grants to attend conferences and to fund research. Will apply to: Columbia, Georgia Tech, MIT, Harvard, Northwestern, Rice, UCSD, WashU, Caltech (so no safeties at all ) Some questions: Of course, what are my chances at those schools? Is it significant that I am finishing my degree in 2.5 years? Should I highlight that in my SOP?
