PhD Bioengineering/BiomedicalEngineering Fall 2015-
Dubblebubble898 replied to disasterprone's topic in Engineering
Ahhh, a bit freaking out because all my schools have sent some invite or acceptance, yet I haven't received any since 2 weeks ago. -
Oh, sowwie Hope you are not too stressed!
-
Btw, does anyone know the post-interview acceptance rate for Caltech?
-
On the results page of thegradcafe (look up "Harvard bioengineering")
-
Do you think Harvard, Northwestern, and UCSD sent out all interview invites? Haven't heard back from any of them but seen differently on the results page. Also Georgia Tech acceptances?
-
I haven't heard many people hear back from UCSD though.
-
I know, this year the notifications are later than last year's. Thanks for the advice! I'll try my best to follow
-
Haven't heard back from any schools yet in over a week. Aughhh, the stress is mounting

I'm pretty sure WashU interviews. I haven't heard back from Northwestern and I think I chose the nano materials concentration, do you think they are done with sending interview invites?
-
@mrobez: For Northwestern, what concentration did you apply for? I know, this year the notifications are getting pretty late. I sent an email to UCSD like 2 weeks ago and I got a computer generated message saying that interviews are required for admittance to BioE and should be sent out the week of 1/19, but there are like only 2 notifications from the results page and my friend who went to UCSD nano engineering for undergrad say that things are usually delayed a bit in UCSD so I'm keeping my fingers crossed! Heard WashU will be reviewing stuff soon! Hope to hear from them soon *crosses fingers again* @ZZ777: yeah, I'm checking my biological engineering grad application and don't see anything, is that where you checked?

I'm from Virginia too and go to Berkeley for undergrad currently. Hearing from bioe grad students here, if u get invite u basically will get in unless u totally bomb the interview by showing that you're rude or mean or something, so congrats! They only interview ones they expect to admit so u r pretty close! Going from Berkeley to Stanford is possible by public transit but it'll be tedious and time consuming. You could take BART and then Caltrain, you would take BART from Downtown Berkeley to Millbrae and then transfer to Caltrain from Millibrae to Stanford. I bet this will take 3-4 hours transit with BART being 1 and half and Caltrain being an hour but Caltrain only runs every 30 min during peak hours and every hour at other times and BART runs every 20 min. I would suggest driving perhaps by taking Uber or Lyft (would be expensive but I'm pretty sure you'll get reimbursed).

Me too! I'm not 100% sure if I'm going to go to the recruiting weekend, but I'll try to if there's nothing else conflicting! Aughhhh, so nervous about other schools
-
You are in MIT bioengineering correct? I applied but I didn't get an email yet today . Do you think they will send out more emails later or should I probably give up hope? Thanks!
-
Ugh, so jealous of you guys getting interviews. I applied for bioengineering and based off last year's application timeline on results, it seems most things start coming out mid January. I wanna know if I can even get into a grad school! :,(. But regardless, congrats to all you who got interviews! You all seem very smart and talented!

Please critique my CV for Graduate Admission Application ...

I think 3 pages is fine for a CV -
Should I mention my external funding in my SoP?
Dubblebubble898 replied to perfectionming's topic in Applications
If you have any external funding, then that is always a plus. Definitely mention it! Usually they have a funding section, but if not put it in the SoP. -
If I improve my grades, can I just send them an updated transcript anyways?

I think you have a pretty good profile. Grades decent, you got a Fulbright?!, good experiences, and some extracurriculars/projects. If I were you, I would aim for mid to top tier schools, but I also don't know much about how CS admissions work. But also, you are applying for masters? But don't you already have a masters? I'm confused. -
Hello all, I'm wondering if schools look at Fall 2014 grades if you apply now for Fall 2015 matriculation?

I had a phone conversation with a UCSD graduate student (also bioengineering prospective) and I mostly asked questions about the research and the PhD program for bioengineering. But I don't think that call really had any say in decisions as I think UCSD's application review does not include professors directly. I would ask questions about the research and the PhD program at Cornell. I think in general that people like to answer questions specifically about their experiences, so maybe good questions to ask could be "what do you like about the program?" or "why did you pick Cornell". Just some thoughts, but I still haven't even gotten accepted to any PhD programs so idk really.
