  2. So when do we c #thanku #raheelsharif tweets start coming? #PTI #NA122
  3. the atmosphere outside my apartment for the first home game at #UNC is amazing!
  4. u can use the scholarship for your advantage if you narrate wisely in your CV. Were you selected competitively? Was it a prestigious and well known award? if so do mention it to bring attention to the fact that you have already impressed a committee!
  5. should be more than enough if you retain 75 percent. also check the word lists on memrise.com it is one of the best tool for memorizing the words
  6. I am so sorry. But a half hearted recommendation is equally bad as no recommendation so maybe you can find someone else to replace the professor?
  7. for PhD programs in biomedical sciences your research experiences matters more than ur GRE score. Off course you need to have a near perfect score if you are applying to ivy's to stand out from the crowd but I was accepted at 4 places with full funding with the same total. Your GRE score is pretty decent for biological sciences, but this will be a cherry on top of your research experience/Publication
  8. i requested my supervisor and program director to submit my LORs for applications. As a reminder, i sent them my transcript and an updated CV to give them an idea about my work. I can speak for the US academicians that they understand the lag and will hold no resentment for not being in touch if u had no reason to! PS. I applied to PhD programs 2 years after my MS
  9. The recommended time for visa application is to allow for any administrative processing to take place before the classes begin. Depending upon the country of application and your interview, you may be able to get the passport back in less than a week. Check the "wait time for visa appointment: and "visa processing time" at your embassy and it should give you an idea.
  10. yep, i got mine almost by the end of april and indeed I had my visa interview today. it has been approved and I am going to make travel plans once i get the passport back. meanwhile i m getting serious about searching for an apartment and roommate now.
  11. has anyone received the I-20 yet or any correspondence from the ISSS?
  12. Same here. I see that the ISSS has received my documents and prof of admission. I am waiting for the I-20. Once the visa matter is settled hopefully in may, i will search for roommate and place to live for at least first year!
  13. a question for the international students here. Any word on the I-20? Do you see an update in your status in the application?
  14. Hi I am an international student and recently accepted into a PhD in oral biology at a couple of places. I will most likely settle at UNC. I had previously done a Masters in oral biology from UMN in 2012 as a Fulbright scholar. In my opinion the admission depends a lot on your research experience. If you have a publication it helps too. off course test scores matter too! What did u do in the 10 months research? Where was it? Did you learn a lot of skills during the project? They do look at the complete package but off course having good research experience and motivation matters the most. Let me know if you have further questions
  15. actually i dont trust their cost of living calculator much. Apparently it shows Ann Arbor is a very expensive town which I have heard is otherwise! I was offered equal amount of funding from ann arbor but I declined it in favor of UNC. I am hoping my department would top up the offer with a supplement. I am especially concerned during the service year when they start deducting proper tax. I think a decent apartment with a private bed and bath will not cost less than 700-800.
  16. I am an international student and 99.99% sure of attending UNC this fall. I will be starting my PhD in the school of dentistry. I have been offered the Royster Society fellowship for five years. I know UNC is the best place for me as the school I am admitted too enjoys great repute. Meanwhile I am just concerned about the cost of living in Chapel Hill as it seems like it is above the state average. Any thoughts?
