  1. oops, sorry for having caused some queasiness... Seriously, I just want this agony to be over! (then again my latest notification will hopefully come in March...
  2. Ok comp lit folks, I finally cracked and emailed Berkeley asking about decisions. Was told that successful applicants would be notified early next week. My chance of getting in: 0.0000001 on scale of 10. Stress level: 100000000 on scale of 10.
  3. I KNOW!!!!!!! This is killing me!!!!! Why is comp lit so much later than national literature departments?? Or is it just that comp lit applicants are not huge fans of posting their results?
  4. I didn't apply to Emory (or Stanford) so I can't tell you anything on that. However, until you receive an actual rejection from the university, just don't give up hope!
  5. Regarding Cornell comp lit, POI told me they would be in touch in February. Judging from the results board I would say around the second Friday of February, probably....
  6. THANK YOU!! This means a lot for a half-Derridean who handed in a writing sample over which she struggled for a few months, aka me
  7. I've chewed away all my nails already, grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
  8. Congrats Fancypants! So happy for you!!! And I assume that a wave of notifications for Comp Lit is also about to start? (So nervous that I'm eating Nutella compulsively..
  9. Yeah I saw that a minute ago, too. Congrats to whoever it is! (This is getting too real..... I've spent hours staring at the results board! SOS!
  10. I was about to raise the same question: no news from comp lit people? My inbox has been quiet as a stone. Edit: Although it's unlikely that I'll get into Berkeley, the fact that they usually send out acceptances during the last week of January still puts me on edge.....
  11. WOW what a relief! BTW my last letter was officially in just a few minutes ago. Today is a lucky day for us *LOR-crisis-fellows*.
  12. So I contacted my recommender and he promised me to do it today. I'm anxiously waiting... I don't know exactly what your situation is. Anyway I would suggest you to contact the programs first just to make sure that they will still consider your file. Then of course get in contact with your recommender.
  13. I'm kind of in the same situation, somehow one of my letters is still missing. I emailed my POI, who told me that she was about to contact me because 'we usually check back with candidates whose files are otherwise complete'. And she also told me that the letter can still be uploaded after deadline.
  14. Congrats!!! It's so nice to sense some good vibes during the endless waiting
  15. oops forgot to mention GRE scores: V 165 Q 160 AW 4 *lamentable aw score but anyway..
  16. Maybe I'm the first international applicant in this thread? BA from a Chinese university Major: Spanish/Hispanic (mostly Latin American) Literature GPA: different system, not sure how to convert it. 85/100. Current attending an MA program in Europe, several universities. (yes it's a very nomadic way of finishing an MA) Major: a mixture of comp lit, literary theories and cultural studies GPA: same situation. 15.6/20 on Scottish scale, 9.36/10 on Spanish scale No publications, very few conferences WS: part of my dissertation project. A psychoanalytical/deconstructive reading of Alejandra Pizarnik's works focused on the tension between the subject and the text and the question of the ineffable, relating back to some interesting issues such as how she disowned her first book, the radical change of her poetic language, and her struggle about writing a narrative, etc. SOP: I basically made a proposal of comparing contemporary Chinese and Latin American poetry in translation. Mostly interested in modernism/postmodernism, contemporary poetry, literary theories, translation studies, new media & performance art. Applied to: Cornell, Berkeley, UPenn, Colorado Boulder.
  17. After a quick glance at the Result page I would say interviews are not common for comp lit programs. My POI did not mention anything about interviews, either. But again I'm not familiar with American system anyway, so that's just my educated guess
  18. wow congrats Proflorax! And happy new year and best luck to all!
  19. I choose to stick to comp lit because I want to work with two literatures (both of which are not English) at the same time. Frankly I didn't receive any 'formal' training in one of the literatures that I referred to in my proposal, I simply thought it would not be a huge problem for me to catch up since 1. I'm a native speaker, 2. I'm an avid reader. But I'm starting to second guess my decision now because my background is highly focused on one literature... maybe I should have applied to some national lit departments, too...
  20. what happened with the comp lit PhD in Colorado Boulder?? I just received their email telling me that the PhD program has been discontinued :(
  21. I second the letter writer annoyance. All my letters are in except for one letter from one professor. The things is he already submitted for all the other programs except for one, plus he has just been elected the director of RAE (guess the ones who study Spanish would know what it is ), so I feel a bit weird disturb him about it during this specific period....
  22. Thanks a lot for the info Mollifiedmolloy! It's very helpful! I'm checking those programs they seem interesting
