  1. Hi everyone, I've been browsing this forum for a couple of days and finally decided to ask this: does anyone know any complit phd programs that have an emphasis on translation studies? I saw that UC Irvine has a similar focus, but I'm not sure about applying there because of their funding situations etc. (I'm an international applicant.) I've already submitted four applications and I'm considering adding a couple more to my list. My major interests are: 20th and 21st century poetry (especially that of Latin America & China), modernism and postmodernism, translation studies, psychoanalysis, deconstruction. A bit of my background: I'm from China. Majored Spanish in college, spent 2 years in Latin America, currently attending grad school in Spain. For the MA thesis I'm working on a Argentinian poet from a psychoanalytical & deconstructionist perspective. Besides the question asked above, I would also really appreciate any advices related to the applications, since I've never been to the States and have zero knowledge of how things work there... Thanks in advance!
  2. wow, same here. Four papers to finish, plus a MA dissertation. And on top of that, the applications. Also need to prepare for moving to another country at the end of year, etc, etc. And i'm surrounded by people who keep telling me"you can get in anywhere you want!" My solution: read something that is not even remotely connected to everything that im doing. go out with friends for some beer and some chat. smoke a bit more than i should.
  3. umm, a quick question: does the AW matter much? is a 4 AW really low for someone who's applying to literature programs? (this has been bothering me for a month..) As for the verbal, I guess 160-165 should be fine. (at least I hope so)
  4. Hey Nahis, I'm pretty much on the same page... you basically just described my background up there (except for the area of interests and the Latin & Greek part ), and I'm also applying to Comp. Lit. I'm trying to be an early bird this year, meaning that I'm almost done with my applications. I've only applied to 4 programs though. Cornell, Upenn, Berkeley (oops.) and Colorado Boulder. I'm targeting Cornell so I actually prepared everything to 'fit' their program, the others are just random shots. They told me that they'd make admissions in Feb. Anyway, best of luck to all, and feel free to PM me!
