Hi, everyone. I was just accepted into the M.A. program in Mental Health Counseling at Boston College, and I'm trying to figure out what my living options are. My fiance and I were hoping to buy a house wherever we decided to move, but obviously there are not many options for buying a house near Boston.everything is very expensive, and crowded. Can anyone suggest a town/city near Boston College where the possibility of finding a house might be better? OR, where we could find a nice (affordable) apartment. We were really looking forward to buying a house and having a place of our own for the first time, our budget is about 250,000, but it seems like everything near Boston within that price range is kinda horrible. We're willing to be a max of 40 minutes away.
Thanks!

I'm in a similar situation; I was recently rejected from the doctoral program at Boston College, but offered admission to their M.A. program (counseling). I'm pretty certain that I'm going to be rejected (wait-listed at best) from all of the doctoral programs that I applied to this round, as I haven't received any interview invitations and I know that they've all sent them out. My only choice at this point is a masters. I'm just waiting to see if I get offers from the other masters programs that I applied to before I make my final decision. Boston College is a great school, but also very expensive!
My advice would be to just go with what feels right to you, honestly. It sounds cliche, but go with your gut. A Ph.D. program is great, but if it's not a perfect fit, then you're not going to be happy in it.

I applied to the MA in counseling Psychology program at Assumption college and MS in Counseling Psychology at U-Mass Boston, Salem State, and Plymouth State. Since I'm pretty sure that I won't be getting into any of the doctoral programs that I applied to, I'm really hoping to hear from one of these...Assumption is my top choice. I wish that I didn't have to wait until March/ April!

I applied to several different Ph.D. programs in clinical psychology, but (due to the fact that I haven't received any interviews) I've come to realize that I may not have a chance at getting into a Ph.D. program this round. I applied to a couple Masters programs in Mental Health Counseling, and one of the programs that I just (last minute) applied to is the MS in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Plymouth State. Has anybody else applied to this program, or does anybody have any knowledge about the quality of the program? I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.

I'm surprised that I've heard nothing but negative news. I thought that I would at least get one interview invitation, even if I wasn't accepted, but so far this month has been one disappointment after another.

Heard from SDN that one of my schools is done sending invites. I almost think I'd prefer rejections to this radio silence.
It's brutal. I'm barely keeping myself together at this point.

To the person who received an interview invite to U Cincinnati clinical, congrats. Would you mind please telling me your POI? Thank you.
-
I called University of Maryland College Park as well and they told me that they, also, have already sent out all of their interview invitations; however, I applied to the counseling program there, it might be different for clinical. I found out from Tech by e-mailing them.
-
I was e-mailed by Virginia Tech that all of their invitations have already been sent out. Bummer
-
In case anyone is wondering, I called both UMD and Virginia Tech and all interview invites have already been extended for the counseling and clinical programs.
-
Would the person who received an interview to Maryland Baltimore County clinical please PM me your Poi? I would really appreciate it.

I have 3 out of 10 applications that say "under departmental review"; all of the others are listed as submitted or complete. I never thought that it might be something to worry about.
-
I keep getting e-mails from schools that I did NOT apply to urging me to apply to random programs that I'm not interested in. I guess I should not have checked off that box on the GRE that allowed ETS to send my information everywhere. I wish I would hear something from a program that I actually applied to, instead of getting excited over spam mail.

Every day I wake up so hopeful that I will hear something, and every day I go to bed disappointed. Who knew waiting for something could be so painful?
-
Thanks the reminder not to worry too much, isilya. Such reminders are always helpful!
For the record, though, "Under Graduate School Review" did changed to "rejected" today....
Sorry about that Did you get an e-mail saying that the status changed to rejected or did you just happen to log on and see it? I'm just wondering if I should bother checking my status every day or if I'll be e-mailed if there is a change.
Good luck with other programs that you've applied to! Stay positive.

I feel your pain. I'm also checking my e-mail an unhealthy amount through the day, and it feels awful. Fingers crossed for news soon!

Family party today... Everyone asking me if I've heard back and why not. And also plenty of misunderstanding the acceptance rates I'm faced against!
I hate how my family doesn't understand the acceptance rates! Every time they ask me about hearing back from school, and I express my concerns, they just say "oh, don't worry! You'll definitely get in, you're a great student!" and I'm just over here like....noo....you don't understand...when 200 PLUS people apply and only a handful are accepted there are LOTS of "great students"! Oh well.

I'm just getting more nervous by the day. I haven't heard from any of the schools that I applied to.

So far only one of the schools that I applied to (Virginia Tech) have been posted on the results search. I am dying to hear something positive from at least one school that I applied to so that I can relax! At least the holidays are coming, and I have several days off from work to travel home for Christmas with my family, so that should take my mind off things for a little bit. Does anybody know if during the break between semesters schools continue to review applications, or if those few weeks will be total silence?
-
I'm not 100% sure about that question, but if it were me, I think that I still would.
-
Are you applying directly to your POI/lab? If not I would contact the program director as they are the ones who generally handle and disperse the applications...at least the U.S., anyways.
Since the 10th was on a Wednesday, it could be possible the apps have already been dispersed for review over this weekend. If you app, app fee, and LORs were in by the deadline you may be alright if Dec. 10 is not a hard deadline (a few of my programs have a deadline of Month Day but allow up to an additional month for GRE scores, LORs, etc. to come in).
Do professors review applications over the weekend? I've been trying to imagine about how long it will take to hear from schools, and I've been factoring out the weekends thinking that graduate committees wouldn't be reviewing applications on the weekends. Sorry to detract from the original post, I'm just curious...

I ended mine by reiterating why I am a good candidate for admittance into school x's program, and then signing...
Sincerely,

My current university

I also didn't expected that so many psychology programs would be sending out interview invitations so soon! I wasn't expecting to hear anything until mid-to-late January but now, like others, I'm starting to get anxious thinking that I might hear sooner.

If I never received an interview do I still have a shot at being waitlisted or should I presume rejection?
