I received one review for each criteria (Three sections total) and an overall grade of "good".
-
Welp, rejected from E3 about ten minutes ago. Good luck to everyone else still in it.
-
http://www.epa.gov/ogdunix1/competition/closed_awards.htm Command F "star" and it'll bring you to the number of applicants per FON
-
I'm E3 as well and nothing has changed on grants.gov
-
If anyone sees that/when the undergrad GRO fellowships are posted, let us know. It looks like they were planning on having those finished before they finish the STAR process.
-
Agreed- am in the large E3 category and haven't heard anything yet- so I'm wondering if people have received rejection e-mails yet, or if the reviewers are simply not finished the process!
-
Yup! It was that PDF of awardees
-
When I inquired about a month back if we would find out before the sem started (to turn down TA's) technical contact reminded me in the email to remember the first year of the EPA STAR Fellowship can not be deferred, suggesting no matter what/when we find out, you can't defer the first year.
-
Not really- I asked if we were going to hear before September so we'd have the chance to decline teaching assistantships, and was just told it was highly unlikely we would hear before September.
-
Here are the number of awardees under each topic from 2012: http://www.epa.gov/ncer/fellow/pubs/2012-fellow-portfolio.pdf The larger submission topics this year match with the larger groups of awardees from 2012. I'm thinking around ten people will be awarded from the combined Water Quality groups (E2 and E3) for which there were a little over 300 submissions. Figuring I have less than a 3% chance. LOL. Good luck everyone (Might be important to note that year ~80 people received awards and this year they were planning on only about 50, correct?)
-
Yeah- didn't make sense to include 6 months and "by September" in the same e-mail.
-
Nvmd, I see, if awarded but not given the funding till October you could request a tuition waiver. "By September" could still mean award notices come out in late August! Got the e-mail as well, btw.
-
I know someone posted the update to reviewers, but is it bad form to try to e-mail or call later this month and just ask if the expected award notice time is still by August 1st... lol (even though we saw it isn't)
-
maybe August decisions will happen nonetheless, one can hope for the seemingly impossible?
-
Ah, this blows because I would pass up a teaching assistantship at my school if I heard about this on time. However, the assistantship letters we receive happen in mid August, before school starts, and obviously need to be signed or not before the end of August when school begins. I wouldn't hate still having the TA-ship as well as the fellowship of course, but that was one of the points of applying- to have funding that would provide me with enough to allow me to work solely on research and coursework.

You are right, I really thought that section pertained to all applicants. So I guess we are just playing the waiting game for news/notifications.
-
Also, the kickback went to my spam if anyone is looking for that
-
It doesn't matter much, but yes I do know that I saw that portion of the announcement in the beginning
-
Beweaver you seem very informed and I appreciate your help. After putting way too much thought into nsfgrfp I've barely given this acknowledgement the past couple weeks... Just hope we at least find out before the fall semester, as was stated
-
Yeah. Bad taste in my mouth now considering what happened to everyone for the 2013 cycle.
