  1. Hey AnnaBianca, I have been admitted and I am a Swiss/Australian dual citizen but have lived in Australia for the last 7 years. I think IHEID is very keen on having students from all over the world and to not have their classes too homogenous. I am also interested in genocide studies by the way!!
  2. Oh god, I know, it's scarifying!! Hopefully it will go down again, Switzerland seems to want it to.. So does that mean you've decided to take the offer?
  3. Hey ThimbusBlixnod, that must be so annoying! Hope those three month go by quickly for you!! Regarding your questions: 1. I would say that if you didn't meet their election criteria, they would reject you. Having said that, I would assume that your chances are slightly decreased because it seems like most people apply for the second round - but I could be completely off the mark with this! 2. I would definitely send them the certificates! It shows that you are motivated, take initiative and already have a background in the field (especially if your UG was in a different field). Even if it doesn't help, there is definitely no harm in sending them! 3. The admissions committee was really good at giving an update on when we'd hear back from them for the first round, so I think in early to mid-February, just send them an email or ask on their Facebook site and they will hopefully be able to tell you when you'll be notified. Good luck with it all! Are you applying to any other schools as well?
  4. Ok so I made a Facebook group for MIA people starting in September: https://www.facebook.com/groups/319486788255506/
  5. Ok so I made a Facebook group for the MIA people starting in 2015: https://www.facebook.com/groups/319486788255506/
  6. Hi Globalist_80! Good to hear from you. I can't speak about your chances, as I have no idea! But in your motivation letter, I would highlight your research experience. A big component of the MIA is the master's thesis, and if you can show that you will be good at that, I think that's worth a lot. Also talk about your motivation to learn: I highlighted some topics/subjects I was especially interested in - that shows the committee that's you've looked at IHEID in detail and are keen to get down and study. Good luck with it!!
  7. I don't think so.. You should set one up!
  8. Ah cool, I was worried that mine was empty - I thought it would say that admission was contingent on passing the French test, but it might just say that in the section below.
  9. Ah, that makes so much more sense now! I've always wondered why you could go from undergrad straight to a PhD in the States! About IHEID: where can you see the conditions of your offer, e.g. French test or completion of your current degree? I've looked at pretty much every page and can't seem to find that.
  10. How come you applied for a masters at IHEID and PhDs in the U.S.? Which one would you prefer doing? Good luck with the rest of the decision outcomes and good luck deciding!
  11. I started a new thread in 'Meet and Greet' for those who decide to go to IHEID next year:
  12. Hi all, just trying to start a conversation for those of us starting a masters or PhD at IHEID next year. I have been admitted to the MIA and will be coming from Australia. What are other people doing? So excited!!
  13. I know what you mean. I had also applied to LSE last year but then decided that for me, IHEID is a much better choice; they seem very interested in helping you find internships and employment after your degree, whereas LSE seems a bit like a 'degree factory'. Just my thoughts on the subject. Plus, I also like that IHEID is two years, but that's just me. Good luck deciding, they're all fantastic options!!
  14. I think if you're not interested in attending either IHEID or LSE then why apply? Science Po and Oxford are both great schools and since you already got accepted into one of your top choices, I'd say save your money (CHF100 for IHEID and GBP50). I had only applied to IHEID and now I feel like maybe I should have applied to more just to have more options, even though I know I want to accept IHEID.. I think we sometimes fall into the trap of wanting more options for no reason. Congrats on getting into Science Po!
  15. Hey rookiegrad, where else did you apply and what's your first choice? Congrats on getting accepted! That's great to hear that many people from the EN were offered places in the second round!
  16. I was accepted into the MIA! Pluto, the school has a great reputation in Europe and especially within the UN community in Geneva. So if you see your career in that field, IHEID is a solid choice. Having said that, I don't know much about their Economics programme. Also, to those admitted who have accepted the offer - I can't see where to pay my per-registration fee? To everyone whose decision was postponed: all the best for the next round!!!
  17. I applied in 2012 and got in in the first round - I also know another girl who did too. So it does happen!
  18. I got an email explaining that they had changed my last name from A to B (I had gotten married but not changed my documents yet). So I thought 'Oh, that must be a good sign, if they're going to reject me, surely they wouldn't care about my name'. But then I heard on Wednesday that results will be out by Friday and thought that they have probably already contacted all the successful people and will just sent a bulk email to the ones who didn't get in.. Aarrghh!!
  19. Thanks Policykid! God, those last few days are nerve racking.. Does anyone know what last year's stats were on acceptances/rejections? Especially for the first round?
  20. Are you from the UK GaryMak? I haven't applied to any other schools so far, but if there's no decision this week (i.e. if they put off the decision until March), I will apply for the Msc Conflict Studies at LSE and the Msc African Studies at Oxford. Would you prefer LSE or IHEID? I had applied to both schools before and got accepted but unfortunately they were both too expensive for me without a scholarship - so I spent some time saving money.. I ended up deciding that I'd prefer IHEID, both because of its location (Geneva!) and because the programme seems to be so career-focused and they seem keen to help you find employment afterwards; at least more than LSE.. Having said that, LSE has a fantastic international reputation and London would be a great city to live in!
  21. I had asked them a week or two ago and one woman said notifications would be released on the 18th and another one said we should have the results by the 19th. And as far as I know, the online system will be updated and we'll receive an email as well. GaryMak, I hope you will be accepted, good luck!
  22. Hey GaryMak, I haven't received an update yet. I had asked IHEID and was told we'd know by the 19th. What did you apply for?
  23. I love the image of the rough diamond, great advice! Congrats on Sciences Po and good luck to everyone this week! Hopefully we know by the weekend and can relax..
  24. I just hope to get a decision next week and not being put off until March! Crdubocq, where else are you applying?
  25. Don't worry IndianLawyer, I really don't think that will matter! I would say emailing them will just draw attention to it, when they might just overlook it..
