  1. Hi! I got my B.A. from FSU and lived off of Jackson Bluff my senior year. I think if you live off of that street within about a mile of the school you will be fine. I know it may look sketchy (that was my first impression too as I had always lived in the dorm or a big, corporate run apartment), but it is really not bad at all. The houses are perfect for graduate student living (something I miss in SoFL) and the further you get from the actual campus and stadium, the quieter it is. The neighborhoods are great because you get a mix of tons of college students and Tallahassee residents, so you know there are people around year-round even when you've left for vacation. And, you are close to virtually everything except the mall. I would, however, stay away from Frenchtown as it is not that close to the school and not the best area of town. Also, even though Blairstone is further away, there are some really nice apartment complexes off this road. One that comes to mind is Arbor View. I think they cater more to young professionals, so if you do have a car, don't want to be around crazy undergrads, especially on game days, this might be something to look into.
  2. I visited UNCG before applying. The grad faculty was really nice/informative and so were all of the facilities. I know they have a strong comp program, which was a big deterrent for me since I am studying Southern and African American Lit. Also, I got some strange advice when participating in their grad conference and was advised by members from my program not to apply--but looking back I may regret that decision. From what I understand, the program is pretty reputable as are the faculty... Also, I'm from FL and all of the state universities are having terrible budget cuts. Several faculty in my MA program advised against applying to UF because the English department is undergoing major changes and has been rather decentralized and unstable for several years. Several former students agreed. None of this is firsthand, but hopefully it will help... Good luck on your decision and congrats!
  3. Thanks! I live in FL, so maybe it is just taking a while!
  4. I was just wondering if anyone had heard from Auburn or Ohio for the Ph.D. program? I saw they had accepted a few people, especially MA's here a week or so ago, but hadn't heard of rejections. This was the same with Ole Miss, but this proved to be bad news for me. Has anyone been rejected from these schools? Should my lack of response be considered as a rejection? Any advice...the waiting is killing me.
