I agree with everyone, the waiting is brutal... I was feeling hopeful that this week I would hear back from one of my final schools (Pittsburgh), and I did however the news was now I am on the wait list.... so more waiting!! Anyone else waiting on a wait list, and any experience or words of wisdom or perhaps even optimism for those of us who are in this predicament? Thank-you all!

Hi Everyone, Again... I thought I would attempt to stir up some conversations. Has anyone applied for the PhD program at University of Pittsburgh? If so, how did you find writing the policy analysis for the applications? Why are you applying for the program? Research interests? Anyone heard anything yet with regards to admission offers?

Hi Everyone, We have been commenting that this forum seems to be more quiet so I thought I would start a new topic. How many of you have applied for the Joint PhD Program? Which Social Science did you apply for and why are you particularly interested in the joint program? Areas of research? Reviewing former result search, it appears that in previous years the applications went from social work admissions to the social science admission at the end of January and then offers seem to have been made around mid February to early March- so time is slowly starting to come around. I did see one interview posted for the PhD Social Work Program for University of Michigan. Has anyone else heard anything?

I applied to the join Social Work and Clinical Psychology program at University of Michigan as well... it appears from previous years that offers are typically made around mid-February with the odd outlier in either direction.

Congratulations sbelt.... That is very great news I'm happy for you and your update also brought more optimism for me, & I am assuming others. Thanks for sharing and all the best with your future endeavours.

I applied to York and Queen's both in clinical psychology, and 5 other schools in the US... My top choices are in the US although I applied to York and Queen's as my POIs are doing some pretty exciting research in my focus area!

Interviews for PhD Psychology Programs and Social Work?
Val006 replied to Val006's topic in Interviews and Visits
Yes, you are correct... there is not clinical psychology program at Stanford although there is a PsyD consortium with neighboring Palo Alto University ( http://www.paloaltou.edu/graduate-programs/pgsp-psyd-stanford-consortium ). There are a number of faculty members in the Psychiatry department who have interests in health psychology/behavioral medicine but I am not familiar with any individuals in that program that have a strong pain focus. Students enrolled in this also program participate in practicum rotations. The research that I am pursuing there is a faculty member at Stanford in the affective science department that has similar interests so I have applied there. FYI, someone I was speaking to applied to 5 different PhD Social Work Programs and received admission to all five with no interviews... which I thought was interesting. I imagine that every school is different though but at least it is some information to provide some insight. -
That was most definitely helpful information from Lynne... thank-you! Makes me have a bit more insight into the process and the ability to relax a bit. Altremix- it sounds like you have a very interesting focus, I would imagine that this has somewhat complicated your application process and nailing down the schools of your choice. I most definitely will keep you posted with any news from University of Michigan, and please do the same if you hear anything although I have a sneaking suspicion it might not be until March. Just a bit of a grueling process, hey?!

Yes, I am also applying for the joint PhD Program but in Social Work and Clinical Psychology. I contacted all of my POIs from the University, did not hear back from one of them from the department of psychology but I was pleasantly surprised with how interactive and supportive one of the social work faculty members that I contacted were; this made me more hopeful. I scanned a lot of the interview posts over the past couple years to see if I could find any information about interviews regarding this program but had no such luck so thought it was worth posting. It will be interesting to see what others may have to share. What other schools are you applying for Atlremix?

Hi there, I have applied for a mixture of PhD Social Work Programs (University of Pittsburgh & University of Michigan) and a mixture of PhD Clinical Psychology Programs (University of Boulder Colorado, Stanford, Ohio, York and Queen's) and I have already been contacted from one of my POIs from Boulder about potential interviews. I understand that it is quite standard for interviews to occur for psychology programs but I was wondering if this is also the case for Social Work programs. Does anyone happen to have any insight? Thanks!

I just submitted my application to Pittsburgh as well for the Social Work PhD program. I was surprised with how long it actually took to write the policy analysis and I found it hard to keep it condensed to 3 pages... I think I had 2 pages of references alone! How did your policy analysis go? Are you applying to any other schools?

Fall 2015 Applicants - What Programs Did You Apply For?
Val006 replied to JoePianist's topic in Psychology Forum
My research area is in comorbid psychiatric and substance use disorders and co-occurring chronic pain and I applied to: 1) Stanford 2) Michigan 3) Boulder Colorado 4) Pittsburgh 5) Queen's 6) York 7) Ohio -
Double Shot, I am in a very similar situation than you... unfortunately I wrote my GRE on November 24th so no time to re-write as it is all past the deadline. The rest of my application feels very strong (4.0 GPA, strong LOR, Writing Samples, Experience in the field both in clinical, management, and policy as well as teaching) I am very nervous as my scores were below the 50th percentile. I applied for some PhD programs in Psychology and some in Social Work, so it should be very interesting to see what happens. My plan is to keep studying over the next few months and rewrite regardless but hope for the best for March that I have some offers. What schools have you applied for?

I did my undergrad and masters degree at UBC Okanagan and taught for the Social Work Faculty.... what would you like to know?
