  1. Cause I'm waiting for my email!
  2. Ya GeoMex!!!!! Congrats! I know you've been waiting to hear from them!
  3. I'm just hoping I hear from one of the five American schools to which I applied... Just ONE!!! Please...
  4. Again, none of us are on the admissions committee and for all we know they may have only offered the top 20% of applicants so far. Maybe not even that. For us to apply conveys the fact that we are confident in our application materials, but as previously stated may not be the best fit. According to previous years results people are accepted to UT on in to march...
  5. I'm not too terribly concerned because I would love to go to any of the schools I applied to. Getting accepted to UT would just be icing on the cake. I'm applying to work in a fairly minor research field within the department, so my chances to begin with are likely slim.
  6. Unfortunately, we have no way of knowing, GeoMex. Like previously stated, I'm sure the most impressive candidates have been notified already as those are the students they most want to attend UT. I'm afraid we are just going to have to wait and see.
  7. I have yet to hear from any American universities. Canada here I come???
  8. Welp, maybe I should contact Indiana as I have applied there but have yet to hear anything....
  9. Congratulations to those who received good news today!!
  10. I can only say that I have yet to hear from UT-Austin.
  11. To further clarify my point: If a single standardized test can determine an individual's qualities, such as; humility, curiousity, dedication, excitement, and initiative then I am at a loss for words... Sophie anne: I hope things work out in your favor!
  12. I apologize if my comment seems as though I am trying to 'shoot down' the GRE. I do agree that the test is a good indicator of an individual's intellectual ability. However, I do not think it is the ONLY metric that can determine this. My main point was, my experience showed that other universities can determine your strengths without a standardized test, which leads me to believe US universities can as well. Not instigating an argument, merely sharing an opinion.
  13. I have only heard back from one school thus far (major Canadian U). I still think it's too early to start worrying. I could be naive and starry eyed, but I believe schools are only starting to notify candidates.
  14. Congratulations! That's fantastic news!
  15. I'm not sure why so much attention is given to GRE scores as they have been proven to be unreliable in predicting graduate student success. For instance, one of my PoIs at a Canadian University called me an "outstanding student and applicant" without even seeing my GRE scores. Do my 70% GRE scores immediately make me a mediocre student in the U.S.? I would hope not.
  16. Not positive, but I believe most programs are running a little 'late' compared to previous years. I've been fortune to speak with two POIs who have said this.
  17. Congrats on your acceptance! That's fantastic news!
  18. My uT-Austin interface says this as well. I believe it just means that the graduate school as forwarded your application materials to the school to which you are applying. In this case, Jackson School of Geosciences.
  19. Thanks for the explanation geodude!
  20. If I understand correctly, UT does not admit any students without funding. That being said, I believe they do offer other funding packages in the form of TAships, RA's, etc. I believe fellowships are funds from the graduate school rather than the department.. I could be wrong though as this whole 'grad thing' is new to me
  21. Seriously! I applied exclusively to schools that I would love to attend... But I would like to have an option
  22. And that deadline was what? December 1st? So maybe the rest of us academic mortals can expect to not hear anything for the next couple of weeks..from UT-Austin that is..
