I have gone crazy. I was obsessively checking the world clock when I realized that they had infact mentioned the time in IST(Indian Standard Time). Grrr..now I don't even have the 'me calculating it wrong' excuse.

I am very angry and really panicky and I need to send this email asap. I cannot be polite at this time, that too in a second language. Can someone help me rephrasing this please?

Acceptance from one school and interview from another
pointedears replied to stopro's topic in Applications
Tough one. I still think I would have said no. Saves them on the living expenses and their time, if nothing else. I guess you should wait for a few more replies to see what people suggest. I don't pride myself on being too politically correct. -

Also, generally if I have to reply but not mention if I'll be accepting their offer yet, I just go with something on the lines of, "Thank you so much for the email/whatever. I'll be eagerly waiting for the postal notification/funding offer/i-20 form/whatever is missing(something should be, right?)." That ways I can reply without giving them a definite yes or no and buy time. -

If you are sure about going to OSU, I would suggest withdrawing your application from the other places. It's just more polite and gives way to other applicants. -
That's where I am a bit confused. I didn't include anything about which professors' work I could identify with. I did however say whom I admired and why. Mainly because I really think that when it comes to art(specially studio art), a faculty should be able to bring out the best in a student. It shouldn't matter if we have the same goals in life, or if we have a particular style going on, or even a common purpose, they should be able to see the strong points in me and help me develop that irrespective of what they are like. I wonder if it's the correct line of thought, specially when you're applying to grad schools. The only thing that mattered when I selected schools was, if the school's philosophy is the same as mine or not.

That's good to hear. Like I said, I was worried about the religion connection. I know I've said this already, but I really like your portfolio. I think it shows maturity(in your work).

Mine is available at - http://www.circuscharms.com/portfolio.html I have 18 of the 20 slides there. So yeah, most of it. 11 of the slides there(the first 11 jpegs) come from an exhibition I took part in. It's an yearly thing where a few of us gather and take one concept each to work on. The concept that I took was The Ten Wisdom Goddesses(basically it relates to different faces of a woman.) As it was a recent thing, I put it as it is in the portfolio. The rest of it is work done for clients during the one year I worked at a design firm. A lot of people advised me against putting work which has direct religious meaning, but I really thing the whole concept is much beyond a religion. I hope the schools think so too.

Or Artist's statement. Do you think the way we have to write these are different from how the 'others' do it? Can we afford to be a little more casual, more personal in our statements(because an artist's personality is reflected a lot in his work). Thoughts? Did you follow the normal grad school application path? Or did you make it more 'you'.

policies for international married couples
pointedears replied to postpartum's topic in IHOG: International House of Grads
And by that I mean, it is still legal(migrating with your family) but the visa is very, very difficult to obtain, specially for people coming from countries usually associated with terrorism(like mine  ). -

If the university decides to act on goodwill, it might work. Not otherwise. As far as I know, they won't give an admit to your fiance because you are planning to get married. Nor will they reject you based purely on that. I hear something about a fiance visa, but that works only when one of you is a US citizen. Again, I might be wrong here so check the US visa policies regarding the same, but I am pretty sure that a few years back married couples could get a visa together if even one of them was a student but they have stopped doing it now. -
Oh they generally do interview though, don't they? Maybe you are just exceptionally good. Congrats again! And yeah, the place of birth thing was a cruel trick to play.
-
Whoa! Congratulations. And now the obligatory question, how did they notify you?

I am a Fashion major from the best fashion school in India, but I am sure you wouldn't have heard about it. Completed my bachelors last year and have been working at a design firm as a graphic designer ever since.

Post here to whine about rejections

That's ridiculous considering TOEFL isn't even tough or anything. If makes sense only for ESLs, if at all. -

Most of the schools I applied to wanted a TOEFL score but not if I completed my bachelors degree from a place where english is the teaching medium. Which it was, but I didn't want to take any chances and took the toefl anyways(I am from India). -
I hope so. It has reached a point where interview calls don't exactly excite me anymore.
-
Phew! Thanks, it gives me some hope.
-
I agree. If the first impression is not a good one, they'll just move on. Also, where did you do your Bachelors from?

Wow what? Canadian applicants need to write the TOEFL? -
Proof of funds not written in English, what can I do?
pointedears replied to laserite's topic in Applications
I agree. Any certified translation is usually ok for most of the schools(I am doing the same thing too these days). However just to be sure, check with your schools once. -
Just confirming, you mean email?
-
That's another reason why I applied to a bazillion schools. I couldn't visit any of them and the only way I had to judge them was by their websites. I seriously had no idea where I stand a chance, if any. Like I said I don't even hold a BFA. I am happy to find someone who's applied to another school I have, MICA. 8)

So basically each passing day without an email = torture. I wish I didn't live halfway across the world. Waiting for 2 weeks for a rejection looks ridiculous.

Works. Saves John a LOT of trouble.
