  1. Omnium, I guess Entropist is talking about Leiden -- and not about CUNY! =) Entropist, not really. There's someone working with corpus linguistics, but I'm planning to do a joint degree in linguistics + computer science at Leiden + UFMG (my alma mater, in Brazil).
  2. I am waiting for CUNY, even though I was already accepted in Leiden and will probably go there.
  3. I applied two years ago, but after some weeks they contacted all applicants saying that they coulnd't offer the internship program that year because they were still relocating to IU. I am planning to apply again this year.
  4. Yes, you are right... Of course, I wouldn't be interested in unknown universities, but maybe there were some interesting programs still available! =) Leiden is a great place with a great program in linguistics, so I think I will be going there! Thanks!
  5. Does anybody know if there is any school in US/Canada still accepting applications? I only applied to two US schools (UPenn [rejected] and CUNY [still waiting]) because I was more focused in European programs (Leiden [accepted], Porto [accepted] and Bern [waiting]), but maybe I should have more alternatives in North America...
  6. I saw this last week and then searched for other interviews in the past years. Interestingly, this was the first interview at CUNY-Linguistics posted in the results section since 2006! It seems that they don't usually interview applicants, but for some reason they decided to interview this specific person this year...
  7. I got an official rejection email from the Graduate Chair. It said: Dear XXX, On behalf of the Graduate Group in Linguistics at the University of Pennsylvania, I am writing to let you know that the admissions committee has decided that we cannot offer you admission at this time. We received more than 150 applications, so we had to made some difficult decisions. I'm sorry that I don't have better news. We wish you good luck in your future studies. YYY Graduate Chair
  8. Maybe they liked you a lot and decided to accept you even without any interview! I was interviewed two weeks ago and got a rejection yesterday. =( I'm waiting for a smoke signal from CUNY, but it seems that they take a long time to establish any kind of contact (almost two months already!).
  9. 46 years ago we put a man on the moon, yet we're still feeding forum trolls...
  10. My research interest is sociolinguistics. I will PM you my POIs names! I am also going be interviewed simultaneously by two professors at UPenn, so I guess this is not that uncommon.
  11. Just for information to the community, I received today an e-mail from my POIs at UPenn. We set up an interview for the next week (but it could have been set up for this week if I were not going to travel tonight). I'm happy!
  12. Cool! I received one visitor from Philadelphia in my personal website last week: it's probably someone from UPenn. They only stayed for 36 seconds, though... Someone from NY also visited my Academia.edu profile. I guess it's someone from CUNY. I also had someone from Berkeley visiting me there. It must be...oh wait, I didn't even apply for UC Berkeley!! hahaha =P
  13. Alichka, thanks for the motivational words! Yes, both Harvard and Yale attract me, but I saw people saying that these (and other) universities don't even start looking at applications with GRE below x (let's say, 320) and GPA below y (let's say, 3.8)...
  14. Hi, folks! Nice to meet you! I'm a Brazilian colleague who is applying just now. I have already applied to CUNY and UPenn. I am also planning to apply to two more schools, but I still have some doubts. Maybe you could help me on this decision! =) My info: - TOEFL: 105 (but only 22 in the speaking part); - GRE: V158, Q155, AW 4.0; - GPAs: B.A. (in Linguistics) 3.63; M.Sc. (in Computer Science) 3.31 [both degrees obtained in Brazil]; - Strong research background (many publications in important conferences and journals); - Currently a research associate in a top-tier European institute; - Got two very nice letters of recommendation from research advisors (the third one is from an undergrad professor). So, do you think that UPenn is a real possibility? And what about CUNY? I was also wondering about trying Harvard or Yale, but I guess my GPAs and GRE results are pushing me down. =( Do you think I should give one of them a try or it will be a waste of time and money? (please be honest!) Good luck to us all!
