  1. I have a skype interview with a POI today. Eeep!
  2. I heard back from one program with a Dec 1st deadline and have an interview next week (!!) but based on the grad cafe results from prior years I'm not expecting to hear back from anywhere else until late Feb, March, possibly even into April.
  3. I made some goals for the year (and working on these has been the only thing keeping me sane while waiting to hear back on my applications...). I've been doing well on most of them! 1. Draw something every day. I started on the first and have so far kept this going. I picked up a couple books with drawing exercises and have been working my way through. Hopefully I'll see some strong progress by the end of the year (this is likely considering how dismal my drawing skills are now). 2. Complete the Duolingo language trees in Spanish and Swedish. I chose this so I could have an easily measurable, concrete goal as I work towards fluency in each of the languages, although I'm using other resources beyond the duolingo app. So far, so good. 3. Eat dessert once a week. Check! So far... 4. At least 30 minutes of intense physical activity 3 days a week. This has been hard to do, as I typically am motivated by classes and can't afford to sign up for any right now. But I'm hoping to get back on track this week.
  4. There's a thread in the biology sub-forums with helpful information from people who've gone through the interview process.
  5. Oh geez, that's awful. I'm glad your other applications are going well, though! I'm curious since you applied to the same schools last year that I am applying to now, what was your research focus?
  6. I logged on to one of my applications last night and the first thing I saw was the word "Congratulations!" I freaked out... and then read a little further. "Congratulations, you've submitted your application!" -.-
  7. Hmm, hopefully they are!
  8. Basically anyone in this forum not applying to a biomedical program. Our deadlines are later and we get lost in the main thread so I thought I'd start a new one. How's everyone's application season going? I just submitted my last application over the weekend (yay!) but I had one of my LOR writers miss a deadline (>.<).
  9. First interview invite came through today. I'm super excited!
  10. Add me as a third. Hopefully next month will bring good news for us all.
  11. I see on the results page that someone got an interview from the University of Washington ecology, evolution, and conservation group. Has anyone else?
  12. It varies widely depending on the program. I spoke with a professor who had been on the adcom for a large umbrella program as well as a small, tightly focused program. He said the former would interview a large number of people and only admit a small proportion, whereas the smaller program only invited people they planned on accepting to the interview.
  13. Can you ask the school you are less excited about for an alternative weekend? Several posters in last year's thread reported that this worked for them. If not, a skype interview.
  14. First of all, my deepest sympathy. This was one of the most difficult things I've ever gone through, even though it was unquestionably the right thing. I'll reitterate the advice above about councelling. It helped me enormously! But I think you should tell your advisor. Mention it as professionally as you can while confirming your dedication to your studies and the program.
