  1. Is anyone else trying to negotiate the Pratt system?? I received a two sentence letter saying I've been placed on their waitlist and now, after being passed around their phone tree, no one will tell me where I stand on the list. Today the vis arts chair returned my call (on my answering machine) and said they can not give me any information until May 1st. This seems inconsiderately late to me, especially in the wake of other offers and an April 15th deadline. Does anyone know anything about Pratt's waiting list? Is it long? short? Is it broken into concentrations or is it a general "visual arts" list, since it seems they do not divide their students into designated programs? I'm not sure what to do, as I've been offered a full ride at Tennessee and don't want to risk loosing that opportunity by playing my chances with Pratt's big unknown. This whole process is such a gamble!!!
  2. I'm right there with you! Chewing my fingers off waiting for the University of Tennessee. How many spaces does your program have? UT has two, both fully funded, and an agonizing waitlist of two. Have you tried calling your department at UMich? I had an optimistic conversation with the department head at UT - he said it's looking promising, but of course nothing is guaranteed until April 15th. (!!!) Is Michigan your first choice? Best of luck in these long 3 weeks!
  3. Hello all, Thanks for starting a sculpture thread! Atumble, I was also a painting undergrad now applying for my MFA in sculpture - it's great to find some camaraderie. The four programs I've applied to are Minneapolis College of Art and Design (MCAD) The University of Georgia The University of Tennessee and Pratt I just heard back from Tennessee this afternoon and have an interview next week. (!!!) I am super nervous and definitely did not expect to hear from anyone until March! I know very little about this whole MFA process and didn't even realize an interview is normal protocol. Or is it? Good luck to you all and I'll look forward to hearing how things go! And for those of you considering Richmond - I spent the past couple years in Charlottesville, Virginia (about an hour west of Richmond) and can tell you, as long as you keep to the right areas (VCU included) you will be fine. Richmond is surprisingly nice. And this is coming from someone who is incredibly liberal, artsy, and gay! VCU is a great school with such a strong sculpture program. I say go for it, if it's not too late!!
