Hi everyone. I just wanted to post these details here before throwing them on the results page. I just got around to checking my voicemail from yesterday, and noticed that I had one message from "Unknown." It was the DGS at U of Washington, telling me they're offering me admission and an excellent funding package, expressing enthusiasm, etc. I'm in Modern Britain, for those of you who don't know. Hoping this means others might get good news soon, too? I need a drink.

Hi everyone, I know we've tossed around the idea of starting a decisions thread, and I think it's a really good idea, so here we go. I just wanted to make a separate thread so that those members still waiting for good news aren't subjected to conversations that might lead to more anxiety. We all know how agonizing the waiting game is, and I don't want anyone to have to read through these conversations unless they want to. Some of you guys have some really hard decisions to make (I'm looking at you, Safferz). I know that I am in a pickle right now, trying to decide between some of my top chocies. I realize this is not really a problem, and if it is... it's a good one to have. How are the rest of you deciding? Visiting and playing it by ear? Interrogating current students there? Drawing from a hat?

So I just sat and mapped out my game plan for the rest of the semester, especially with regard to my thesis. And... oh my goodness. I am officially horrified. Looks like I need to do a little less gradcafe and a lot more writing. Or else I'm not gonna be going to any PhD program.

I'm wondering about this too. Maybe it's by subfield? Maybe it's general rejections, as you've speculated here? I guess it's hard to say at this point.

I just declined my fellowship at SUNY Buffalo. I wanted to be as courteous as I could and let them know as soon as I decided the offer was out of the running. I hope this means someone can be bumped off of the waitlist!

Okay everyone. In the spirit of trying to cheer up anyone who is struggling right now, I will begin posting obnoxious phrases that have gotten me through the past few weeks (between losing my grandmother, waiting on applications, and going through a very serious health scare that turned out to be okay). I have a billion of these saved, but I'll start with this one:

Sandy, so sorry to hear that you're having a hard time. As others have said, you've still got time. Please have heart and know that we're all pulling for you!

Thanks! I should note that my POI originally sent this on February 15, but said he had used an incorrect email address (mispelled my name in it), so I just got it this morning.

Hi everyone, just wanted to share this here before posting on the results page. I just received an email from my POI at Rutgers, with a fellowship offer. I'm ecstatic and now have some serious thinking to do. My top 3 (excepting the possibility of Yale) were Northwestern, Rutgers, and UT Austin. I realize how lucky I am to have this decision and I am certainly not complaining. I'm hoping that those of you still waiting on good news hear something positive in the upcoming week.

Finally received my Yale rejection. Honestly just not even upset about it. It all worked out for the best. Congrats to all who were accepted!

That sounds like a good plan. Rutgers is the last of my top 3 that I have to hear back from (Northwestern, UT, Rutgers)... So after I get an answer either way, I can start making plans.

Congrats, WendyDarling! So, fellow Rutgers applicants, what's the consensus? Do we think acceptances are all out? Or only to certain subfields? Only Americanists? I can't decide.

I'm trying to weigh it against NU though, since that was one of my top choices, and seems like pretty much the best fit I could ask for. But there's no quidditch, or feasts, or magic... though I've heard some of the buildings resemble Hogwarts?
