If it helps, I know that they've been looking over apps for a while now, and probably will send out short list decisions beginning the end of next week. (Edited to add: I mean the end of NEXT week, like February 9-10, I'm guessing.)
-
So I think I'm going to start making a list for myself, of the things I will not do when I'm a prof and prospective grad students contact me. 1. I will not send one sentence responses.
-
This is what I'm doing, exactly. All three.

Everyone is so quiet tonight! I see you lurking...
-
Yes, I usually just have the tab open and running in the background, too, even when I'm not home. But I also have a serious problem with checking this site over and over and over again. God I hope this week is better than the last.

Condolences to the WashU rejection!

Hm. That's interesting. Thanks for the feedback and congrats on your prospects! As for me, I am starting to think it just wasn't meant to be, and that I really want to end up someplace where my advisor is just as excited about my research as I am. So hopefully this fellowship pans out and I can breathe. I should know in about two weeks.

Thanks for the feedback. In a strange way, this makes me feel just a tad better about not getting an interview. It helps me to rationalize it, anyway, and feel a little less... rejected. It's easy to forget about all of these factors. But really, in a weird way, this makes me feel relieved.

I think it's probably a good idea, just in case. I know that I wouldn't take out any loans (and I'm sure a lot of people will have strong opinions about this), but if you would run into a tough spot, and need to supplement your stipend with a student loan, it'd be nice to have the option, right? I'm not sure if it's required at any of my programs, but I filled it out just in case.

TMP: That is my instinct, too. My POI was planning to take new students (confirmed over the summer), but I didn't know they'd be on leave. I'm debating sending an email.

So, am I the only Modern Europeanist on the boards who applied to Yale? I know that a Modern Germany and an Early Modern Europe historian have received interviews —but I have a sort of strange question. I noticed just now that not just all three of my POIs, but many of the Europeanists are on leave right now. Can anyone tell me if this impacts admissions decisions, or at least the timeline? I am just trying to sort this out in my head. Any info is most appreciated.

Sandy, I'm sorry to hear that! Please do keep your chin up. You are a really strong applicant, with your teaching experience and everything. I'm sure a better offer is just around the corner for you.
-
Agreed. I am neurotic enough.
-
I just want to put this out into the universe: I'm going out to dinner now. If I could have a giant piece of good news sitting in my inbox when I get home later tonight, that'd be great. Please and thank you.

Well, another Friday has come and gone with no news here. I'm hoping this is my last no-news week, even though it's still early. Maybe next week things will speed up a bit!
-
Whoa, congrats to the Washington University in St. Louis (WashU) acceptance!
-
This is true. I'm celebrating what may be my last non-miserable/nervous Friday by treating myself to a long lunch, alone, with my research.
-
Flo, I must have missed this, and I'm on my phone so it's a little tedious to try looking for it. Did you have an interview? Congratulations! Wherever it was, I hope it went great.
-
This is better than the classmate (who is not applying for a PhD) who said, "So you haven't been accepted anywhere yet?" This just happened to be the same day I convinced myself it was time to give up on Yale. Thanks, awful classmate, thanks. I should also note that this classmate is elderly... and auditing the course for fun... and very, very irritating.
-
Ugh, this sounds so good and bad at the same time... depending on where you fall, I guess.
-
Yes, it seems that way.
-
So hopefully tomorrow will be more like today around here. Ready to get things moving. Anyone wanna make any predictions?
-
Okay, I just got in from work (It's just before midnight here), and it looks like congrats are in order! So CONGRATULATIONS to all of you who got good news today! Also, whoever posted an interview for Yale Beauty School: You're my hero.
-
Yes, finally. I am about to go into work for the evening... would love to see some more good news posted when I get home tonight.

Okay, in case I missed this: congrats to the Duke acceptance!
