  1. AFB: Congrats! How exciting! Do you have a name selected?
  2. Hey friends.
  3. AFB: I hope you can get your puppy! My puppy (and my husband) have gotten me through this stressful time. As someone else noted, there's just something about having that sweet little nugget that will love you no matter how the admissions results play out.
  4. Well, after some of the Yale interviewees generously PM-ed me with the info I asked for, I am officially counting myself out for Yale. I kept saying that I didn't think I'd be considered there, but in the end, it really does sting. The perfect advisor for my proposed dissertation is there (who pretty much created my subfield), and I have been corresponding with that prof on and off for a while now. But I think if I just count myself out now, instead of keeping my hopes up, I will save myself some disappointment. I wish all of the Yale interviewees the best of luck, and will send good vibes your way. I just keep telling myself: 1. That's only one out of nine. 2. That was the most competitive of my nine apps. 3. It's really, really early in the game. Hope you're all surviving! I think that now that I've accepted this one, I will stop frantically checking my email/the results page, and just let the process play out.
  5. That's great, Sandy! Very happy to hear it's going better for you.
  6. Sorry, meant to say congratulations as well!
  7. Well, at least I have to go to work this evening so I will be forced to stay away from the boards/my vicious thought cycle until late this evening. I just want to know yes or no to Yale, really, and then I promise I'll not be so neurotic.
  8. Virmundi, would you mind PMing me your field/any info you might be willing to share?
  9. Yes, and let's hope February goes faster than January!
  10. TMP, thanks for the reminder. I know, you're right. It's helpful to have that sort of reminder every now and then.
  11. Best of luck to you, too, Safferz!
  12. Hoping you get good news this week, Sandy!
  13. It's part of the process, I know. And part of this career path, in general. I think the anticipation is probably worse than the rejection itself, though.
  14. I suspect the same thing. And it's giving me mixed emotions — a combination of excitement and dread. Sometimes I chicken out and think it'd have been better if I didn't apply to work with some of these people whose work I've been married to for the past two years, during my research. Because then I wouldn't feel that awful sting if/when they (or the adcom) say(s) "no."
  15. Anyone else suddenly wide awake now, too?
  16. I can't even imagine. I hope your interview went well, and best of luck to you!
  17. Interesting, thank you. I'm sure many on this board appreciate your helpful info. I'm wondering if people will still be contacted for interviews after the adcom meets.
  18. (And also, BIG congrats on the interview!)
  19. Owls, thanks so much for the info! I'm taking it you're an Americanist then? If you'd rather me PM you, please just let me know. I'm a Europeanist, and trying to figure out if I should count myself out yet.
  20. Who else is around tonight, being neurotic and wondering what the week will hold? I've been keeping myself very busy this weekend, but now my mind has wandered back to what I may or may not find out this week.
  21. AFB: I'm so sorry. That's awful. I hope you get a refund, too.
  22. I also have a feeling that this will be a big week around this board. Let's hope so, anyway. Good luck to all of you... hoping everyone gets some good news this week.
  23. Yes, you are probably right. I am just trying to figure out if they're all Americanists or not, so I can gauge whether or not I can count myself out at this point.
