  1. That's wonderful. Congratulations!
  2. It was not fun. I kept getting all of these questions about Byzantium and other things outside of my specialization. And then one of the rounds was in like Arabic or something. I was so upset in my dream.
  3. Sooo I had a dream last night that the school considering me for a fellowship called and said there was one more step in the process. I had to go to a campus visit, and participate in this history game show thing. Against the other finalists. It was like The Price is Right/Jeopardy/Who Wants to be a Millionaire. God.
  4. YES. And also, you know this, but don't sweat the mildly late LORs. As long as they submit them within the next few days, you'll be fine.
  5. This is pretty much how the waiting process is making me feel.
  6. C&C, I'm just glad that someone else is up and being neurotic about applications with me right now. And yes, this thread will be a billion pages long.
  7. Well, I'm a Europeanist, so I went with the Encounters track. I met with my POI there, back in October, and she emphasized the importance of proposing my research to fit that track, given my geographical/temporal areas. So I really tried to highlight that in my application. The building that houses the History Department there looks like a weird mid-century, dreary monster of a building though.
  8. CPetersen - awesome! Very, very happy for you. That must feel like a giant weight lifted, no?
  9. C&C: We have a few apps in common. Maybe we'll get good news together next month!
  10. AFB -- yes, I'm sure you're right. My advisor keeps urging me to sit down and make a list, ranking my programs in an ideal world where I get an offer from everyone. She says it's important to decide how I feel about each program before getting caught up in the emotions that come with decisions. I have a hard time doing this because, honestly, without fishing for compliments or anything... I have a hard time allowing myself to think I'm going to get an offer from anyone. I suppose it's how I minimize risk of disappointment. Has everyone else made a list like this? I feel like I'm going to jinx myself if I even think about it. Irrational, I know. But I do.
  11. Is the reality of all of this starting to sink in for anyone else right now? I am feeling sort of apprehensive. On the one hand, I just want to know if I'm going to get an offer already. On the other, I sort of want to stay hiding in this happy ignorance... still able to think that anything could happen. I looked through the results survey earlier, and it looks like my programs started notifying admits in the second week of February last year. That seems so close and so far away at the same time.
  12. CPetersen, do you mind sharing your field? I didn't apply to USC but I'm sure others would appreciate the info.
  13. So I guess this means it has begun... Not sure of I'm ready for this!
  14. That's great! Congratulations!
  15. Haha, Crater. It's okay. I think everyone is starting to fizzle out right about now. Yeah, just for academia.edu. I have gotten a few notifications lately that I'm being Googled. It just tells you when, what keywords they used, what time, and what country they're in. In other news, I just submitted my VERY LAST application. Hopefully this means that it is my last doctoral application ever. I will celebrate by revising a chapter of my thesis. Hope you're all holding up okay.
  16. The waiting is making me progressively crazier, you guys. Every email I get from academia.edu, stating that someone has googled me, puts a knot in my stomach in hopes that it is a potential advisor. Meanwhile, it is probably no one at all. February can't come soon enough!
  17. I hear that, for sure. Every time I leave work I just think about how hopefully, I can put in my notice sometime this summer.
  18. Awww, Kelkel. That's rough. But don't most programs use e-mail for notifications? The acceptances, anyway?
  19. I just use an external hard drive with Time Machine on my Mac. That way I don't have to worry about doing anything manually. I do have another external hard drive that I use to back up all of my files manually, too, periodically... but I'm sure to store it in a separate place from my other one. Just in case anything ever happens.
  20. I think Yale might be starting to look at applications, but this could just be a misreading. Anyone else get the auto-generated email from grad admissions? Pasted below: Dear Goldielocks, Thank you for applying to the Yale University Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. The purpose of this e-mail is to let you know that your application has been made available to your program for review (whether marked as Complete or Incomplete). We wish to remind you that you have access to a feature of the online application that allows you to monitor the receipt of your standardized test scores and letters of recommendation. Simply log back into your application (Click Here) and you will have access to the status of the receipt of those items. If your application is marked "Incomplete" please check to see if it is because of missing letters of recommendation or for Standardized Test Scores. If it is a recommendation that has not been received, you can send a reminder to that recommender. If you are missing test scores that you know you have sent to us and there could be a first or last name issue, please contact us by following the instructions in the Frequently Asked Questions section for Questions Not Answered (do not respond to this e-mail). Your application cannot be incomplete because you uploaded your transcripts and they are recorded as being Received (Not Official). That is the status used for all transcripts uploaded to the application. Do not mail (or have mailed) Official Transcripts as they are not needed at this time and are discarded if recieved. Also, remember that if you need to change your mailing address, phone number or e-mail address, you may do so by logging into your online application and returning to the "Contact Information" section. Except for the optional Fall Term Grade Report, Contact Information is the only section of your application you can update information at this point in time. When a decision has been made on your application you will receive a Decision Notification e-mail and your decision will be posted in your on-line application. Decisions are generally posted during the month of February and March. All admission decisions are communicated by the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, not by individual departments or programs. Only decisions from the Graduate School may be considered official notifications of admission and financial aid. Sincerely, The Office of Graduate Admissions Yale University
  21. Yes, just wanted to chime in that the profs I spoke with at Washington were really enthusiastic and accessible, but all emphasized the budgetary crisis they're facing at present.
  22. Oh, no, Sandy! Hope you can recover your stuff. Anyone else get the survey from Berkeley? I got excited for a moment until I realized it was just a stupid survey from the Office of Grad Admissions.
  23. I did two campus visits last semester, and met with my PAs there. I also had an informal chat with one of my PAs last week about a fellowship. Beyond that, I'm not planning to visit anyone until I get offers. I think they're probably incredibly busy right now with the new semester/admissions decisions, so it would be a bit gauche to request a campus visit post-deadline.
  24. Yes, I agree that's a bit unsettling, Safferz. I've got all of this nervous/excited energy and there's next to no one here to join in the neuroses with me! But really, I'm just excited more than anything. Trying to soak in the excitement phase before the rejections start arriving... haha.
  25. Ahhh, okay. Nice research, as always, Safferz.
