There are so many people with better profile than mine. I don't think I have a chance in any of the schools I have applied.

some get lucky sometimes and some don't. I emailed two professors to ask more details about their research. one replied. another didn't ( the website of that particular group didn't have enough information about the ongoing projects. But they mentioned .. there are many interesting ongoing works. feel free to contact any students or faculty. I never found out their interesting projects but the group seemed to be a solid one.).

yes. I found some result posting in previous years that some people got Masters admission in Cornell ( ECE ) even though they applied for PhD and they had a Masters degree. This is even worse than getting no admission.

Just say " I am sorry and I wont be able to accept the offer. Please give the offer to other people"

hehe. Don't worry buddy. I applied to CS (system) but for some weird reason I put Tom Mitchell 's name as one of the reviewer of my application. Funny. You made the right decision. Now the adcom needs to make the right decisions by enrolling u I hope Tom Mitchell is smart enough to realize your value @ CMU.

Damn it !! I should have realized this early and meet Scott. btw.. I think this is a very nice system in Cornell. You have a dedicated person to answer all your questions withing 2-3 days. I didn' t find any other schools with the same facility. Scott is doing a great job.

Good to know. The specific professor that I want to work with asked not to email him. Anyway will be hearing the decision from them by February 15th.

I didn't contact to any of the professors in my field. Is it hard to get admission without contacting?
