Wow ! Congrats ! I would probably wait it out but not sure if that's the right choice ?
-
Exactly ! It's like .. do I plan to be busy those dates and then be bummed out when I am not a finalist !? HA ! And I thought February would be a stress-free month!
-
Not sure why this made me anxious but PDO dates have been posted! http://us.fulbrightonline.org/pre-departure-orientation-schedule-2017-2018 I also had a dream last night that I was rejected as a finalist and they told me it was because I was not skilled enough 0_o

They said early feb pre-departure dates would Be announced correct ?! I was offered a job during the first weekend of June that I have to accept or deny and I am afraid the d.c orientation dates would fall on the same date. I'm also worried that I'll turn down the job and not even become a Fulbright finalists ...

Gah. I most likely not going to be around to post on here when the announcements come out today. I just want to say you all are the best and this forum has always made my Fulbright experience so much more enjoyable. <3 Good luck!

Wow. Thanks for this ! This clears up things a bit !

I applied as an arts candidate so It was under the Arts Application Statistics. Although after reading that I feel like I'm even more confused.

To my understanding that is correct. So the first round you should be viewed by the committee of your discipline, then the 2nd round you are technically competing against everyone who has moved forward to the in-country committee/panel regardless of your discipline. For example, not every country is listed on the NSC Member List (PDF). Although I'm not sure what the means for the countries that are listed. Maybe you're looked at by both your discipline and a country specific committee. I only have 3 committee members looking at my discipline (based on the stats 31 of my discipline were reviewed and 9 go forward). But I guess if you have 300 applicants that might be a bit harder for only 3 members to review? Maybe they have country specific panels in the first round to help with the number of applicants. Also, I'm curious if the committee members in the first round are actually in the same room discussing the applications together, or if they're all submitting our ratings online? Hmmmmm.

Oh god. Why did I look at the NSC review & process rating scale PDF !???

I'd green arrow up this but .... I've hit my limit for the day ... 0_-

Does anyone have an FPA who has a close in with Fulbright ? I can vaguely remember people in the past getting a heads up close to the date from their FPA. But I could just be dream'n

I did ! I applied to Kenya twice actually ?. Once with a focus on elephant poaching, the second time I wanted to research human-elephant conflict. Ended up a semi-finalist and when I didn't get it was lucky enough to apply for a young explorers grant and got funding ! After gaining more experience with elephants in Kenya I thought it would be worth applying to indo to work w Asian/Sumatran elephants. Althought not feelin so confident this time around w Fulbright I'm glad I applied ... anxiously awaiting the results ! Thanks for asking ! ?

Anyone else apply to Indonesia ?? ?
-
I once head that some people who applied for the clea found out they're were awarded the grant before notifications were out. I believe those people ended up being finalists. But I'm not 100% sure !!!!

This is a bit old but how was your experience applying as an artist for Fulbright through U of M ? I am from Michigan and have been looking into their masters programs.

In the past when I had previously applied I had hired language tutors, I also felt at first like it was a waste of money after I was eventually rejected. But oddly enough ended up being able to use the little I learned later in life. And I like languages so after I got over being rejected I didn't regret dedicating the time or money to learning something knew. With that said, even after having spent time and money learning languages and not getting the grant... I have started a little bit of pre-language learning with apps for this current application. I have identified a tutor and will hopefully start online tutoring/language prep if I make it to the next step. I would have started sooner actually but haven't been able to work it into my schedule. Also, some countries will do interviews before the final decision, I'm hoping to know the basic's in case I have to do an interview after January. also side note I'm kinda surprised how quiet this forum is this year. In the past years, I feel like there are a lot more people posting. I wonder if less people know about the forum this time around/application cycle.
